Jesinta Campbell, dancers and Barangaroo: what to expect from Myer and David Jones this winter

For decades, Myer and David Jones have been proverbial twins on the department-store landscape but this winter, change is in the air.

The retail giants will launch their new seasons in successive weeks in Sydney – starting with David Jones on Wednesday and Myer on February 11.

While the houndstooth brigade at David Jones will stick to the tried-and-tested champagne and runway show, Myer is launching its top-end collection with an exclusive sit-down dinner at Barangaroo for 100 fashion industry figures and insiders.

Instead of a traditional runway, the "show" will feature a series of "fashion movements" from top fashion houses including Maticevski, By Johnny, and international brands.

And why have just one launch when you can have three?

Myer will follow its Sydney soiree with a more "consumer friendly" launch in Melbourne on March 10, featuring its Australian contemporary brands, as well as in-store parades on March 11.

Sizzling: Jesinta Campbell at David Jones' 2015-16 summer launch.

It's a change in direction that Daniel Bracken, deputy CEO of Myer, says will extend and deliberately slow the pace of the unveiling of the new season's range.

"It's about showing that we don't just have designer and lifestyle [brands]. We have a broad offer from a pricing and fashion perspective that fills out all the requirements of our key customer groups," he said.

"We have had a major focus on getting the right brands in to our stores ... building wonderful in-store experiences and really reshaping the perception of Myer in the market."

During the next few months, Myer will see an explosion of activity, starting this week with the first Mimco concession at Bondi – the first of several mini-stores for the accessories brand to open nationally during the next 10 days.

Myer was also on Monday announced as a partner of the 20th Melbourne Fashion Festival, which will be held next month..

Other new brands joining the Myer stable this year include TY-LR, Finders Keepers and British giant Topshop, which will appear as "shops within shops" at several Myer stores throughout Australia.

Aurelio Costarella, known for its statement gowns, will jump ship from Myer to David Jones and will join other new labels including Aussie export Tome, New Zealand cult label Zambesi, See By Chloe and Marni.

David Jones, whose summer launch in August created a splash with model and AFL WAG Jesinta Campbell strutting her rocking figure in a monochrome bikini, will feature Vogue cover girl Catherine McNeil. McNeil, whose career launched after winning Girlfriend magazine's model search, has walked for international brands including Balenciaga, Dior and Valentino.

On Monday, David Jones announced Campbell would become a full-time ambassador for the brand, following the footsteps of Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale.

Brian Walker, analyst and CEO of Retail Doctor, said the launches were the beginning of a five-year transformation of Australia's department-store culture.

"The [physical] shop is only part of the battlefield now. Their ability to build great events and stories and then deliver that in terms of the customer experience [is critical]," he said.

He said consumers should expect smaller stores, the return of food as a major focus and more examples of "experiential retail".

The David Jones winter campaign has the store join forces with the Sydney Dance Company, with a 90-second movie featuring McNeil and David Jones ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox striking their best dancers pose on a revolving podium to the tune of Disclosure's When a Fire Starts to Burn.

The collaboration continues the fashion-meets-the-arts direction for the store, which last year teamed up with ex-Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns for its summer campaign.

The partnership with the Sydney Dance Company is about "movement and self-expression, a meeting of two great brands [that] are really energetic beautiful and creative", says Donna Player, David Jones director of merchandise.

She said the dark, moody, mirrored shots in the "look book" were designed to "amplify the beautiful dance and create the idea you could see the garments from the front and the back". The look will be recreated for Wednesday night's launch, to be held at the Sydney store's On Seven event space for several hundred media, designers and David Jones VIPs.

Spread the Love: Sydney & Frank

Sydney Henson was at a friend’s birthday party at a local Japanese restaurant in 2008 when someone new sat down next to her. “Trying to make things less awkward, I said, ‘Hey, how’s life?’…and I got my first glimpse of that smile of his,” says Sydney of now-husband Frankie Wilkerson. After an evening of small talk and flirting, plus running into each other several times at school, the two high school juniors started dating only a few weeks following their first meeting.

Six years later, Frankie proposed at the Rockefeller Center in New York City in front of the legendary Christmas tree. “I went from sobbing to flat out water works,” Sydney recalls. “…People that surrounded us were clapping, awing and cheering for the sweet moments they had just witnessed.”

The couple began planning their rustic and relaxed celebration at the Cody Creek Chapel in Dobson, focusing on the smallest details to ensure their personalities would shine throughout the day.

“I wanted our wedding to be a vintage representation of the two of us,” Sydney explains. “We are both relaxed and pretty simple people with creative ideas, so I wanted that to be seen on our special day.”

The bride’s family and friends also pitched in to complete the several DIY projects Sydney had planned, including her mother, who arranged the bouquets, and her uncle, who created the amazing wooden cupcake stands. The candy table, jam favors and several more of the décor were also handmade. “It was an absolute blast,” Sydney says. “We wanted to save a little money, I loved crafting…and it was actually a very happy and relaxed time for me.”

On a beautiful and sunny May afternoon, the couple said ‘I do’ in the rustic, cabin-themed chapel, where they exchanged personal vows in front of 150 friends and family. Standing with them were Sydney’s bridesmaids in coordinating pastel dresses, and Frank’s groomsmen, who completed their smart outfits with wooden bow ties.

Sydney says that the vow exchange was, for her, the most memorable part of the day. “I rarely feel like I can completely and accurately describe my feelings towards him, and that day I feel like I successfully told just how I felt about him to everyone in the room.”

After the newlyweds took photos, everyone headed into the nearby banquet hall for a vintage-style reception, where, following a dinner of lemon pepper salmon, teriyaki chicken or ribeye, they hit the dance floor to a mix of live music and DJ sets.

Sydney and Frank chose Tim McGraw’s “My Best Friend” – their song since they began dating in high school - for their first dance. “The lyrics are truthful and accurately help me describe how I feel every day when I am with him.”

For dessert, guests enjoyed a variety of cupcakes, including red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting and white almond cake with strawberry icing, in addition to filling up on their favorite treats from the candy bar.

“The reception was my favorite part [of the day],” Frank says. “The whole family coming together in one place and socializing was a huge blessing for me.”

Following a fun evening of eating, dancing and celebrating their newlywed status, Frank and Sydney ended the night by leaving under the glow of dozens of sparklers held aloft by their loved ones.

“Our beloved family and friends traveled from all over to spend the day with us at a venue which fits our personalities...I wouldn’t have done anything differently.”

Our Wedding Story: River rats wedding party

Knots were tied at ceremonies recently in Waterford, Athlone and Galway

Leah, a teacher from Athlone, moved to Canada five years ago. She planned to stay for only a year but after meeting James, from Vancouver, at a friend’s party decided to stay put.

James’s mother is Malay-Chinese and his father’s family is from Goa, in India, but he grew up in Tanzania. His parents met in the UK and moved to Canada, where James was born.

James and Leah went ring-shopping in Seattle but Leah’s students and her aunts, “thought that we needed a more romantic story for our proposal so we went skiing and pretended to get engaged in the snow up on the local mountains in Vancouver. Long story short, we ended up on the evening news in Canada for the ‘proposal.’”

Photo:purple bridesmaid dresses

On August 8th, 2015, they were married in St Mary’s Church in Athlone and had a reception afterwards at Glasson Golf and Country Club.

The bride’s uncle Matt Scally rushed the bridal party from the Fletcher house to the church that morning and another uncle, Tom McGuire, drove the newlyweds around Athlone for 30 minutes while beeping the horn of his car.

Leah’s parents Paul and Jenny have a boat crew called the River Rats and the wedding party went from Coosan Point to Glasson Golf and Country in a convoy of 12 boats.

James and Leah were in the lead boat, “all decked out with wedding decorations. It was a windy day with sideways rain and choppy water, but that made things great.”

That night’s session went on until 6am – after Leah’s cousins carried a piano down a flight of stairs to the residents’ bar. The newlyweds, who live in Vancouver, honeymooned in Italy.

MMA superfan has his wedding in the octagon - and it looks amazing

Bride-to-be Wendy got more of a ring than she bargained for

An MMA announcer treated his fiancee to a wedding with a difference - in the octagon.

Noel O'Keefe, 34, from Shankill in Co Dublin is an announcer for the sport and decided he was going to tie the knot with all the MMA trappings.

He persuaded his partner of 13 years Wendy, 31, to go on RTE’s Don’t Tell The Bride so the pharmacy technician had no idea what Noel’s plans were.

Noel said: “We had been planning to get married for a long time and we tried a couple of times to save up.

“But life gets in the way and we had bills and other things coming up so we never got round to it.

“We thought going on Don’t Tell The Bride would be a great opportunity.”

Noel is a ring announcer for fight shows here and abroad which he fell into by accident.

He said: “We were messing at the gym and I was pretending to announce one of the guys who was fighting.

“And one of the coaches said: “That’s it, you’re doing it.” And things snowballed from there.”

“Mixed Martial Arts and UFC is something that I love and it’s always on my television so I thought it would be a bit outlandish to have that kind of a wedding.”

Wendy had pictured romance and castles so she got quite a surprise when her hen do was at Conor McGregor’s gym for a day’s training- especially as she already had two broken fingers.

And afterwards the girls were treated to a snackbox from the local chipper.

Noel said: “I don’t know Conor personally but I have chatted to him a few times.”

And Noel admitted his missus isn’t too keen on one aspect of the sport - the ring girls who parade around the octagon.

Even so, he still got them to announce the couple’s wedding in their local pub.

Noel said: “Wendy appreciates what I do and she knows I love it. But I thought I might be in trouble when I got the ring girls to announce the wedding date in our local pub.

“She got collected for the wedding in an ice cream van too and those things I didn’t know how she would take but she has a good sense of humour.”

The top table for the day was beside an octagon and there was a bit of a display with two young fighters putting on kicks as the guests arrived.

The wedding cake had a huge UFC logo and the bride had the groom in a rear naked chokehold.

And the ring girls led the guests to their tables where they could watch all the action.

Luckily for Noel love won on the day as Wendy took it all in good humour.

She said: “MMA’s Noel’s passion not mine, he never shuts up about it.

“I knew Noel was going to do something totally mad but after three weeks apart I was confused and distraught.

“In fairness the ring girls were great craic and I had a few meltdowns but once I saw Noel that was it - I was happy.

“And our son Liam who is 10 is delighted his mam and dad are married.

“He was so excited about the whole thing.

“We had a day we will always remember - because we won’t be able to forget it.”

Don’t Tell The Bride returns to RTE 2 at 9.30pm on Thursday.

Emmy Rossum dazzles in form fitted black sequin inset dress

Emmy Rossum, 29, was every inch the proud fiancée on Sunday evening as her better half Sam Esmail, 38, won big at the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards.

So it came as little surprise that the couple were in good spirits as they were spotted rounding up their post-show celebrations at Mr. Chow restaurant in Los Angeles.

Leaving the venue hand in hand, the pair put on a coordinated display as they made for a very dapper duo.

Wearing a big smile on her face, Emmy looked classic in a sleeveless form fitted black dress.

Rossum teamed the number, which featured a sequinned inset, with a pair of silver heeled sandals and a statement clutch bag.

Meanwhile Sam looked handsome in a two piece black suit, white shirt, tie and patent shoes.

Emmy Rossum knows how to dazzle in an understatedly glamorous way.

The brunette beauty wowed in her thigh-split sequinned dress by Dior which featured a silver sequinned insert where there should have been a lot of leg on show. Classy!

On first glance, Emmy’s dress oozed classic Parisian chic with its simple scooped neckline and timeless cut, but the glitzy snippet of fabric gave it the lift it needed as a red carpet number. Gorgeous.

The ideal dress for pretty much any occasion including fancy dinner and dances to a night on the tiles, you can go wrong with a chic LBD with a unique twist such as this.

The sad part is that it’s not available to buy online, but you can attempt to emulate Emmy’s look from the high street thanks to our affordable picks below from the likes of NaaNaa to Missguided.

No doubt their time at the popular restaurant would have seen the couple toasting to Sam's wonderful night at the annual award.

At the Critics' Choice Awards, Esmail's television series Mr Robot, which is a thriller about a cybersecurity engineer, picked up three trophies.

The 2015 show won Best Drama Series, Best Actor In A Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor In A Drama Series.

Ahead of their big night out, Emmy shared a picture on her Instagram wall to keep fans in the loop with her movements.

Uploading a shot of her stunning engagement ring, Rossum's snapshot also featured one of Esmail's sleeves as he showed off his theme cufflinks.

The caption alongside the image read: 'On our way to cheer on @whoismrrobot at #criticschoiceawards with little robot cufflinks!'

Rossum said ‘yes’ when director boyfriend of two years Esmail, 38, proposed to her in August 2015.

The smitten couple met in 2014 on the set of the romantic dramedy Comet, which was directed by Esmail and starred Rossum in the lead-role alongside Justin Long.

MILEY CYRUS AND LIAM HEMSWOETH ENGAGEMENT BACK ON,PLANNING SUMMER WEDDING?

Miley Cyrus was just spotted back in the arms of Liam Hemsworth over the holidays in Australia. The Miley down under sightings have now evolved into a full-blown engagement and summer wedding according to some reports. Are Miley and Liam really engaged for the second time and planning a summer wedding?

Life & Style put out a report on Wednesday that has been picked up by Hollywood Life and several other outlets claiming that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are already headed for the altar. Apparently Miley has been wearing her engagement ring, the same one Liam Hemsworth gave her. That has many thinking Cyrus and Hemsworth are already engaged again after their holiday reunion.

Miley reportedly never gave back the engagement ring from Liam even though the recently reunited couple admitted their relationship was over in September 2013. “She always hopes that one day she and Liam would get back together,” claimed a Life & Style insider.

Akshay Kumar shares Asin Thottumkal

It looks like Miley finally got her man back after she was seen kissing Liam at a music festival over the New Year’s holiday she spent in Australia. “They’re already talking about a wedding,” the insider said. “Miley says she can’t wait to be Mrs. Hemsworth and wants to get married as soon as possible, maybe this spring. She’s saying she wants the biggest wedding ever.”

Miley is so intent on getting her relationship back on track that Hollywood Life reports that she isn’t taking her sweet time at all. Miley Cyrus has never been one to follow tradition, and she is reportedly not changing her tune now. There are claims that Miley proposed to Liam and not the other way around!

As for reports about the reason for Miley and Liam’s split the first time around, it looks like Liam is trying to make some changes for Miley. The Hunger Games actor is said to have been upset by some of Miley’s wild ways, and that’s why they didn’t get married during their first engagement.

Liam Hemsworth is ready to accept Miley Cyrus as she is, according to Us magazine. It’s easy to understand why Liam might have been worried about Miley circa 2013. Cyrus was still trying to shake off her squeaky clean Hannah Montana persona while also trying to figure out who she really is. The change in Miley was pretty shocking to fans. We can only imagine what Liam was thinking when Miley started dancing on stripper poles while shedding more and more clothing during her shows.

“He realizes she was growing up and experimenting, he took a step back and gave her time to do that,” says the Us Magazine source. “Miley’s always had a special place in his heart.”

Some think Miley Cyrus might be making some changes to make Liam Hemsworth happy too. Miley has been sporting longer hair lately, causing speculation that the singer might be taming her wild child look because Liam likes her with longer hair.

So far there is still no official confirmation that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are engaged. There is also no evidence on Miley or Liam’s social media suggesting they have been spending time together either. It looks like the newly reunited Miley and Liam might be trying to keep their romance under wraps a little bit longer.

Many fans thought Liam and Miley might make their love official for Liam’s birthday on Wednesday but that didn’t happen either. When will Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth admit that they never stopped loving each other and now they are working out the issues that broke them up? Fans of the famous couple are waiting with baited breath to see Miley and Liam out in public together again.

Former New York runway model goes behind the seams and launches Mormon temple dress company

A Mormon model who spent two years walking runways around the world as a teenager is back home in Salt Lake City and beginning a new endeavor.

Rosemary Card was just 16-years-old when she moved to New York City to start her modelling career after signing a three-year contract with Elite, but by the time she was 18 she was finished with the business.

Card did not want to compromise her values or do anything she might later regret, but know she has found a way to combine both her love for fashion and her faith with a line of Mormon temple dresses.

'When people say, "Why did you stop modeling?" I always say, "Long story short is I feel like I’m able to offer more to this world,"' Card told the Deseret News.

Card, who is one of five children, was first noticed when she took a role as an extra in the first installment of the the hugely-popular Disney trilogy High School Musical.

Q. Noor

It was on that set that someone told her she should be a model, and so on a trip to New York City with her mother she attended some open calls, getting a contract almost immediately with Elite Model Management.

With her career as a model becoming a reality now, her parents had some major concerns with how this might clash with their daughter's faith.

'They prayed about it and fasted about it, and they really felt like it was part of God’s plan for me,' said Card.

'So even though it wasn’t part of their plan, they didn’t feel like they could say to Heavenly Father, "Oh, it’s not in our plan. We’re not going to do it." But they felt like I was supposed to do it, and I think that gave them a lot of peace.'

Card also got some advice from a fellow Mormon who had also been a model, Leanne Freedman, who told her; 'You just take one inappropriate picture, and you will never get it back.'

Once in New York Card, then 16, spoke with her agency who allowed her Sundays off to attend church and things seemed to be going well until she traveled to Japan two years later.

Card does not explain what happened exactly, just that her standard were compromised and so she returned to Utah.

She went to school at Brigham Young, graduating in 2013, and started a photography business.

And now, eight years later, she is back in the fashion business, though this time on the other side as a designer making temple dresses.

'I know the purpose of the temple is not to be hot or to be flashy,' said Card.

'We’re not trying to be gaudy or draw attention to ourselves, but we want to wear the best that we have, and if the temple is the most important work on this Earth, we should be dressed our very best for it.

'I don’t think it has to be extreme, but I just want people to look nice.'

The company, Q.Noor, launched in November, and is already successful according to Card.

On the website Card writes; 'We believe there is a reason why temples are beautiful, and we think your dress should be too. You will love your Q.Noor temple dress for its beauty and comfort so much so that you can forget about what you’re wearing and focus on what is most important.'

She then adds; 'Whether 2016 has wedding bells or door-bells in store for you, find your perfect temple dress in our shop.'

All dresses are $85, and currently come in five styles, all simple, white and conservative in accordance with temple standards.

The temple dresses are worn over temple garments

All the Exclusive Details on Lucy Hale's 'Victorian Goth' Beauty Look!

We’ve got a secret, can you keep it?

We’re kidding — you’re definitely going to want to spill all the exclusive details we just got on Lucy Hale’s hair and makeup looks from the People’s Choice Awards.

The Pretty Little Liars star hit the carpet in a sexy Self Portrait design (styled by Rachel Zoe Studio) which featured a lace-up neckline and sheer-paneled skirt. And she played up the gothic vibe with her beauty look courtesy of her glam squad — Kelsey Deenihan (makeup) and Kristin Ess (hair).

“Kelsey and I spent New Year’s together and I already knew what dress I was going to wear then so we started planning our look together,” Hale tells PeopleStyle exclusively. “Kelsey, Kristin and I also always get on a group chat together and send inspiration back and forth.”

Lucy Hale PCAs Mark makeup

Deenihan, mark.’s celebrity makeup artist, adds that the dress was the inspiration behind the whole look.

“After we saw the dress, we wanted to go for a Victorian Goth look,” Deenihan tells PeopleStyle exclusively. “We also decided that since her hair was back, we wanted to do a pop of color and decided to go for a dramatic lip.”

The whole look took about 90 minutes to complete (mainly because the trio was playing music and having fun while getting ready).

To play up Hale’s eyes, Deenihan started by applying the maroon shade from the mark. On The Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact along the upper lash line and slightly blended it out into the corners and on the lower lash line. Then she lined the entire top waterline and the outer half of the lower waterline with themark. No Place To Run Eyeliner in Jet Set, plus, the Hourglass Sculpting Pen in Warm Brunette on Lucy’s brows and finished the look with the YSL Shocking Mascara in Deep Black.

As for Hale’s glow, Deenihan used Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #5, the Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Initial on the cheek bones and the mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes all over the cheeks. She pulled the whole look together with a vampy lip, first lining Hale’s pout with Chanel Lip Liner in Rouge Noir followed by mark. Lipclick Matte Lipstick in Vixen (as seen in the BTS photo above.)

As for her textured crown plait, Ess didn’t use many bobby pins to keep it in place. She decided to go with a simple braid to keep the focus on the dress and the actress’s makeup look.

Kristen Stewart wears chic lace dress to accept best supporting actress

She likes to mix up her red carpet style with equal measures of feminine and androgynous looks.

Kristen Stewart arrived at the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Monday night sporting a very chic two-piece dress showing off her slender limbs.

The 25-year-old star was one of many A-listers at the event held at TAO restaurant in Downtown New York.

The Still Alice star donned a leather-look quilted frock with lace bodice and hem which flattered her petite figure.

She teamed it with black pointed heels and swept her brunette locks back in a no-fuss style.

A subtle smokey-eye and some bronzer completed her look.

The actress accepted the best supporting actress award for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria.

Pals: Kristen caught up with her Still Alice co-star Julianne Moore inside the venue

She stars opposite Juliette Binoche who plays a film star coming to terms with an uncomfortable reflection of herself while starring in a revival of the play that launched her career.

She has a penchant for jeans, t-shirts and Vans sneakers. But when it's time to hit the red carpet, Kristen Stewart sure knows how to clean up well.

The Twilight star attended an event at Tao restaurant in NYC dressed in one of her favorite brands, Chanel. Pulled from the Pre-Fall 2016 runway, the co-ord set was made of quilted leather with sheer lace panels.

You can't go wrong with a leather skirt in your closet. Whether mini or mid length like Kristen's just slip it on with a sweater and a pair of knee high boots to last you all through winter.

And while this luxury look is not available online, you can still recreate the style with one of the options below. From Nanette Lepore to Jay Ahr, we've got all budgets covered.

Also there on Monday to accept a gong was Spotlight star Michael Keaton, 64, who took home the award for best actor and Saoirse Ronan who scooped best actress for Brooklyn.

Kristen chatted it up with her Still Alice co-star Julianne Moore as the duo were seated next to each other in the venue.

Susan Sarandon meanwhile had hugs for everybody and was even seen perched on Moore's lap at the dinner table.

On Sunday, the National Society of Film Critics tweeted that the Twilight alum scored their trophy for best supporting actress.

It's been nearly a year since Kristen impressively won the César Award (French Oscar) for Clouds of Sils Maria.

Kristen will next play a troubled student called Sophie in Tim Blake Nelson's Anesthesia.

The indie drama - released VOD next Friday - also stars Glenn Close, Gretchen Mol, and Corey Stoll.

Kristen will likely attend the January 24 premiere of her next film, Certain Women, at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

She plays young lawyer Beth Travis in the Montana drama, which also stars Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, and Rosanna Arquette.
