Zynga vs. Facebook

By now almost everyone at Facebook has heard about the dispute between Zynga and Facebook. First Zynga threatens to leave Facebook because they think a 30% commission to Facebook is too much. Facebook wants Zynga to keep all of their games only at Facebook.

I will admit I do like Farmville, Mafia Wars and Poker Blitz (when it is working). However I do not know if I am willing to log into Zynga every day in order to play my games. I am a member of Pogo and I do not log into Pogo every day or even once a week to play games even though I have a chance of winning a jackpot spin worth real money. I check my Facebook almost every day but that includes checking on updates from my friends and family. Playing the games is a bonus that is offered at my profile site. Plus Zynga is not the only company supplying games at Facebook. Their games may have better graphics than most, but ultimately I still play games at Facebook that are not by Zynga. Such as Country Life, Mobsters, Mobsters 2, Airline Manager, Farm Town and many more. I will be disappointed to lose the Zynga games, but I will most likely be able to move on.

As for the 30% commission that is a pretty good deal. I work with a number of companies that sell Video on Demand and Online Games. I can earn between 60% to 80% recurring commission on all of my sales. Recurring includes every time a gamer pays their monthly fee to keep playing the game, every game they purchase, every movie they purchase or a monthly fee paid to view movies each month. I am one person who is able to receive a 60% to 80% commission. Facebook is a full team of people who are willing to go with only 30%. That is not a bad deal for Zynga. Ultimately Facebook has supplied the gamers for Zynga. I did not switch to Facebook in order to play Zynga games, I switched to Facebook because they have an easy layout to work with and it does not take forever for friends profiles to load because they have tons of graphics, videos, pictures and music all going on at their profile page.

Facebook wants Zynga to sign a contract that forces them to only promote their games with Facebook. If that is true I do not care for that kind of dealings. It started back in the day when Showtime had Paramount Pictures sign a contract that forced Paramount to only show their movies on Showtime for a year or more and not with HBO/Cinemax. As a fan of Paramount I felt it harsh to force fans to add Showtime to their cable bill in order to watch their movies, and we never did add Showtime to our cable bill. We either waited for it to finally show on HBO/Cinemax, viewed it at the theater or rented it. Ultimately Showtime did not make any extra money from my household.

Halloween Specials

Halloween is just around the corner.  Do not wait until the last minute to plan for it.  That  leads to visiting stores with costumes thrown around, finding the last available costume you were looking for just to find out it is still there because of the foot print on the back of it or the tear right up front. Here are a few ideas for online places to go for costumes and decorations.

Amazon:
From kids/infant costumes to adult costumes, Home Decorations, Trick or Treat Bags, Flashlights, Glow Sticks and more.  Select merchants within the site are giving out $10 off specials, 25% off sales, Daily Specials and more.  International shipping is available.
http://budurl.com/HalloweenAmazon

Electrique Boutique:
Free shipping when you spend $100 or more. (Does not include speedy delivery.) They have both men and women’s costumes.  Their prices are fair and if you are looking at ordering a costume for both you and your significant other you should reach the $100 mark for free shipping.  They also allow for international shipping to over 225 countries.

Wicked Temptations:
Free alfit when you spend more than $100.  They also have costumes for both men and women.  Their prices seem to be a bit higher than Electrique Boutique.  I did not see any indications that they supply orders internationally.

If the above stores do not supply you with the products you are looking for please let me know, and we can start the search before Halloween gets too much closer.

Disabled or Just Fat?

Dis-a-bled (dis-ey-buhld)
-Adjective
Crippled; injured; incapacitated.

Maybe I have a different perspective as to what makes a person disabled.

However, I was in chat the other day, over at Pogo getting my nifty lil weekly badges, and happen to pay some attention to the chat box.  The chatters were going on about how they were trying to lose weight or needed to get on a “diet.”  The way the convo was going most people were talking about needing to lose 50 or more pounds.  So, I told them that a diet is meant for people who need to lose about 20 pounds or less.  For those who need to lose more than about 20 pounds they need to reevaluate their eating habits or lifestyle of eating.  Everything was still going good at this point, no one was bashing me in or snapping at me, yet.  Someone then typed in that he does a lot all day but just keeps putting on weight.  So, I added that in order to lose weight a person needs to burn more calories per day than the number of calories they consume per day.  (Here it comes, what got me in trouble, pay attention now.)

Someone commented that “some people have metabolic problems.”  I agreed, I said well yes if someone is “fat” because they have a metabolic disorder they may need to get medical assistance in order to maintain a healthy weight.  (Did you see it, did you notice what made me get snapped at?)  Next thing I know, a few people start typing in the word “disabled”, I didn’t understand what they meant.  I said well if their problem is bad enough, it may be considered a disability.  They said, no, the word “fat” is rude, you should use the word “disabled”.  WHEN did the word “disabled” become a synonym for FAT?  I looked it up at
http://thesaurus.reference.com and it was not listed.  Their list included:

beefy, big, blimp, bovine, brawny, broad, bulging, bulky, bull, burly, butterball, chunky, corpulent, distended, dumpy, elephantine, fleshy, gargantuan, gross, heavy, heavyset, hefty, husky, inflated, jelly-belly, lard, large, meaty, obese, oversize, overweight, paunchy, plump, plumpish, ponderous, porcine, portly, potbellied, pudgy, roly-poly, rotund, solid, stout, swollen, thickset, weighty, whalelike

Nope, I do not see “disabled” included in their list.  Isn’t that being disrespectful to people who truly are disabled?  I know of a few people who get a disability check from the US Government because they managed to put on enough weight that they cannot really do anything.  Personally, I would rather my tax money go to them receiving help to lose weight rather than get a free check in the mail that helps to keep them overweight.  Hell, I know of a few people who originally got a welfare check and used that free money to become chunky enough to now get a disability check.  So my tax money first went to plumping them up and then to keeping them that way.  Talk about using our government money wisely.  Ok, I can go on with this paragraph for a while, so I am going to move on.

If you are overweight, you either do not know how to eat properly or you are addicted to food.  (Not including anyone with true medical problems that may be causing the weight gain.)  Either way, you need to figure out the why and then figure out how to fix it.  Stop blaming someone or something else.  We seem to currently be in the “It is not my fault” generation.  Unless someone is pinning you down and force feeding you high calorie, fatty food, it is your fault.  We don’t look at a person and say it is not your fault you took drugs, you are disabled.  We do not look at person and say it is not your fault you get drunk all the time, you are disabled.  No we label them, drug addicts, alcoholics, etc. and expect them to get counseling or rehab.  If you are addicted to food, admit to it, you are a food addict, and no matter how much weight you lose, you will always be an addict.  You will have to work harder than others to maintain healthy eating habits for the rest of your life.  Just as an alcoholic has to work at maintaining sobriety for the rest of his/her life.  The main difference is, food addicts still have to eat food, so rather than staying away from their addiction completely they have to maintain control of the addiction.

If you are overweight and truly happy with yourself, more power to you.

But if you are not happy with your life, for whatever the reason: sit back, take a moment, figure out what it is that makes your life suck and then figure out how to fix it.  Don’t mope around blaming others for whatever problem you have or whining about how your life sucks.
