You ask what have I learned about life, death and love as a Firefighter/ Paramedic?
RULE 1--- The biggest thing is that EVERY moment is precious, and every emotion is important. Happiness, saddness, heartbreak and joy let us know that we are human, be thankful for the ability to feel them. With saddness and heart break, recognize what it is, say it hurts, and recognize why,, it helps make it easier to tolerate. Sometimes I have to give pain medication to people that have been hurt, I don't lie to them. I tell them that they will still feel the pain, they just wont care about it as much. Recognizing why your hurting emotionally is similar because it makes it easier to tolerate, because sometimes it never goes away.
RULE 2-- Be honest with yourself and others, if you love or care about someone, tell them. The saddest thing I have seen that hurt my heart is someone lamenting over a dead loved one saying "can I have one last time to tell them I loved them??" The answer is always no. Gone is gone. Maybe in the next existence, but not this one. Don't let it pass you by.
