While I sit in silence listening 
for the last sigh of the day,
I close my eyes and imagine that
I'll find you again someday.

Would, if I could have loved you then,
the way I love you now,
seems letting you go was all it took
to finally show me how.

I couldn't make the promise 
to give my heart away,
for the keeper of that special 
key had yet to come my way.

Now you're gone forever 
on wings of a mourning dove,
never to return to me, 
the one I couldn't love.

I sit in silence wishing, 
that if only you knew, 
that the keeper of the key, my love, 
was nobody else but you.
