weekend warrior

And another wacky day-night in teaganville... Technically its night to everyone else... to me its another day... Its 4.30 in the morning on sunday here.. I only woke up at 4 pm yesterday afternoon after sleeping for twelve hours because of a lack of sleep on thursday night and work on friday afternoon... I was wrecked... but no matter how much I tried I couldn't sleep... and its happened again tonight... Im sort of sleepy.. but not tired enough to go to sleep with the background music of mike playing the xbox because he couldnt sleep because he's not used to sleeping so late, and he refuses to get up before me on a weekend because its the only time he doesnt have to... men *sigh* But anyway, I'm taking a break at the moment from finally getting around to finishing the house... not that I have much choice in the matter... mum's due down here next saturday (originally it was going to be a week from monday) so this is our last weekend before she gets here, and I thought it might be better for her not to have to try and sleep on a bed with a mountain of clothes... if she can get to it past the obstacle course of boxes in the spare room... so We're digging into it this weekend... I would have done more earlier, but I got distracted by refinishing a side table, which I've been meaning to do for years... it seems to be a trend with me... last day off I had, I called a sickie with work, because frankly, it was too hot, I hadnt had a sickie in ages, and If I'd gone to work that day I would have had a mental breakdown... But anyway... I had that day off... and got stuck into the house, thinking *maybe on my day off I may get a part of the mountain of work done*, so I go into the spare room thinking of putting away some of the clothes... I get distracted by some of the boxes with stuff for the loungeroom... so I go into the loungeroom to think of where I wanted to put the stuff... I get distracted by the mantlepiece thinking Id like to put some of my candles and one of my plants on it, and its filthy, so I get my cleaning cloth and spray out of the kitchen and set to work... and I get distracted by some stains that wont come out... so I try scrubbing for a little while, and they still didnt come out... so me with my carpenter diy craze, go and pull out my paint stripper and scrapers and sandpapers and wood stains etc etc etc... spend the rest of the afternoon refinishing the mantlepiece... with breaks for a quick drink, cig and checkup on email... before I know it, the day is gone, the lounge isn't unpacked, the clothes are still in a mountain on the spare bed, and I find the only thing I've done is the mantlepeice.... such is my life.... today... I got distracted by the side table thats been outside on the back porch waiting to be bugsprayed for the spiders it picked up in the shed in our old place... the stain on it was patchy and the previous clear coat was all but gone... so Im straight out to the garage with it, (and my trusty diy carpenter tools) and I spend the entire day refinishing it, in between watching a movie with mike and doing a little grocery shopping... once again, such is my life... I get distracted too easily... but the way I figure.. is that Im up anyway, Im not going to be sleeping tonight, so I may as well finish the house today... the great thing about it, is that when Im sleepy, Im harder to distract and tend to do monotonous tasks quite well because I dont have to think so hard about what Im doing... But anyway, speaking of distraction... I think I might put some music on and get to it :D hope you all have a great weekend...

a christmas story

'Twas the night before Christmas, And all through the house... Not a creature was stirring Since the cat ate the mouse. * My support hose were hung By the chimney with care. (I hung them last Christmas And just left them there.) My dog, Floyd, was nestled All snug in his bed, After watching the cat rip The presents to shreds. * And I in my long johns And ratty night cap Had just settled my butt For a long winter's nap. When out on the lawn There arose such a clatter, I swore at the window, "What the (blank) is the matter?" * I tore open the window, Not a second to tarry, All ready to throw The noisemaker a berry.* * A bright moon was lighting The new-fallen snow... And I had a moon of my own Set to show. * Floyd was beside me, Paw pointing the way Toward eight tiny reindeer Hitched up to a sleigh... * And a little old driver So cheery and quick, I thought for a moment That I would be sick. * Like a bat out of...you know, His reindeer they came, And I whistled and shouted And called them some names-- * "Hey, Hornhead! Hey, Furface! Hey, Weiner and Turkey! Yo, Klutzy and Mangy And Venison Jerky! * Stay off of my porch! Get away from my wall! Now hit the road, hit the road, Hit the road, all!" * But as pedestrians before My old Buick , they fly And head for high ground With great fear in their eyes, * So up to my rooftop The fleabags they flew, With a sleigh full of toys And old Fruitcake - Breath too. * And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof Holes in my new shingles Made by each tiny hoof. * As I reached for my slingshot And a marble as well, Down the chimney St. Nicholas Tumbled and fell. * He had a huge sack of Cheap junk on his back And I whispered to Floyd, "Be prepared to attack." * His eyes they were squinting, His toy bag was draggin', And I felt for a moment Like I'd soon be gaggin'. * He was dressed all in red. With a bell on his hat. And a belt of black leather To hold back the fat. * A billowing pipe He clenched tight in his smile, And the smell was like something Had been dead for awhile. * He had a broad face And a little round belly That shook when I nailed him With a handful of jelly. * He was chubby and plump, Well, actually porky, And I laughed when I tripped him (He looked pretty dorky). * He was like a beached whale Unable to budge. And he tasted good , too, If the dog was a judge. * I spoke not a word But went straight to my work-- A noogie, a wedgie, A cry of "You jerk!" * Until laying a finger Aside of his nose, With a loud cry of "Uncle!" Up the chimney he rose. * He sprang to the sleigh And dragged in the toys, Then he cried to the reindeer, "Get me out of here, Boys!" * And I had to exclaim As a slushball I tossed, "Happy Christmas to all, And to all a Get Lost!" * But then, as I turned, I saw 'neath the tree Two gaily wrapped presents-- One for Floyd, one for me. * A big bag of jerky Turned Floyd mighty chipper, While for me was a pair Of brand-new bunny slippers. * I looked out the window, And hovering there, Old Santa was winking From his sleigh in midair... * "Merry Christmas, Maxine!" He cried, full of cheer. "Same to you, Pal!" I answered, "I'll get you next year!"
My dear friends: In these days of Political Correctness run amok, this struck a melodious chord with me. I hope you enjoy it too. And also: A fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wisher. update on life

and hello to everyone... :) its hard to believe we've been here in this house for two weeks already... we dont have much unpacked as of yet, still getting the interior painted. My mums moving down to melbourne at the end of the month, so we're trying to get the major parts done before she's here... we're also in the process of getting a dog, I've finally caved into mikes demands lol.. plus a lady at work has to find a home for her golden lab because her son is allergic to it.. so that means this weekend is going to be spent putting the back gate back up.. and checking the fence for holes... but it will be worth it :) will be interesting to see how the cats take having a dog :) but anyway, I need to go get ready for work.. I'll try get some pictures posted when I have them... toodles :D

lovely stuff.... Yesterday I found out we were lucky not to be eletrocuted in the shower.... but to the whole story... The electrician came by at about nine, just after I woke up. he fixed the stove for us, but as to the reason the lights and stuff were flickering when we turned stuff on, he had never seen it before... so he called the electric company, and they sent people out... the tested our house connection and the next thing I know they were disconnecting our power out at the pole... one of the guys came over and told me that we had a defect notice on our overhead fuse box (the main box next to the wire that brings the electricity into the house) because it was "burnt out" apparently he only touched the fuse and it fell off... and then he told me that the electricity was coming into the house, but because the fuse was stuffed it wasnt going back out, it was going through our house earth which touches the water pipes... so that could have been interesting... mind you, this also meant I missed out on my shower before work, so we had no power for a few hours before I left, I had to call the real estate to get the electrician back to replace the box so that our power could be turned back on... luckily this happened before I got home, otherwise it would have been no dinner for us, our stove is electric.. and it would have been no shower for me, our hot water system is electric too... *sigh* ahh well... they say bad luck comes in three's, that should be the end of it.. right????
