On this special day, I had a flashback to when I was a young teen. I was watching TV with my mother and step father. On the tube, the live telecast of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech in Detroit. 

I remember hearing my mother mumbling "bullshit", and "you're an ass". When the speech was over I asked her what she was talking about. Her reply; "the whole group of them need to just shut up and go back where they came from". I was really confused by this. After all, everyone was born here in the U.S. so they were already where they came from.

I went next door to my grandfather's house, and decided to ask him. He had been more like a father to me then the person who was supposed to be. I told him what my mother said. He lost it; completely lost it. I had never seen him get angry but he was then. 

He explained to me that my instincts were right. Common sense tells us we are all equal, all Americans, and deserve equal treatment. Certain aspects like quotas in hiring and acceptence to college weren't the perfect solution but until people like my mother woke up, it was the only way.

Today, I see so much divisiveness it makes me sick. I don't even care who is blamed, all I know is that we as a people need to just stop. STOP. 

I'm a conservative, voted Republican all my adult life and probably will till I die. But for fucks sake, protect the kids that were brought her by parents illegally. It was of no choice of theirs. Give them enough time to get their citizenship. 

Then protect our borders, not just with policies but with what ever it takes to keep mooching dregs of life out, to keep criminals from other countries out, and to keep drugs out. If it's a wall, so be it, put it up. At the same time, reform immigration laws. Update them to the present time in history. 

I don't care who calls some country a shithole. It's a word, means nothing. Actions mean something. Right now, there is nothing going on. ZERO!!!! Congressional Democrats are being adolescents, POTUS and the Republicans are being adolescents, both side throwing tantrums, pointing fingers, and nothing is getting done.  DO SOMETHING!!!!

Don't let Dr. King's dream fall by the wayside. Act now. Tell Democrats to stop whining and start working. Compromise. They aren't going to get everything they want. Tell Republicans to stop pointing fingers at Democrats. Compromise. 

Get it together America. Stop being so damn devisive. Stop listening to media rhetoric and political party brainwashing. Use your own heads, think, common sense is the way we will win.
