Impact Play involves striking parts of the body with the hand or various implements such as paddles, straps, floggers, cats, crops, whips and canes. Sometimes impact play is referred to as Corporal.
In general, safe places to beat are places with a lot of fat or muscle. Avoid areas where bones are close to the surface or where major veins, arteries, nerves or organs can be bruised or damaged. These include:
the sides of the hips, where many nerves are located and the bones are close to the surface;
the lower back, where the kidneys are attached directly to the muscle wall;
the spine and tailbone, where individual vertebrae have bony protuberances that point toward the surface of the skin and could be easily damaged;
the back of the head or neck.
