Everyone wonders which is better so here goes.
LCD is better for many reasons at the present time.
Plasma is designed for minimal use, because it generates to much heat and disapating that heat is not a simple fix. Thus normal every day use tends to burn them out within 2 years.
LCDs also have alot more flavors and companys making them this means you have alot wider range of choices. I will recomend only one brand here for two reasons.
1. It is middle road almost low road on price
2. It has the best picture quality when watching sports or high action movies.
Visio can be found at wallmart and has recently released a 42inch LCD and that is almost the biggest LCD so far, i have seen one 46 but i didnt like its price.
HDMI - This is a output input format used on LCDs for the best picture quality. Unless your equipement you own or plan to buy has this outpust you will not care about it when purchasing your LCD. However here are the diffrent standards and what they refer to.
OK 1080p or 1080i are way diffrent
p = progressive scan - means not interlaced
i = interlaced scan - Interlace is a technique of improving the picture quality of a video signal by removing flicker without consuming any extra bandwidth.
1080 refers to the horizontal lines layed ontop of one another to create the image.
In most cases no normal person will reilse a significant if any diffrence from a 780p vs 1080p image unless its ona 50 inch screen and your 12-15 feet away.
Now which is better well the 1080 is as far as P or I this all depends on the equipment sending the signal. If you buy a 1080p only tv, and a 1080i dvd players well you can already see your not gona get what you want.
So unless you have HDMI out on our equipment at present there is no reason to worry about this because you will not be using it.
