Amid the cruel tyranny of slavery, black artists have managed to preserve their culture through art, literature and several other things. Black artists have tried to portray the struggle of black people wonderfully.  After civil war, many black artists emerged who started a kind of renaissance with their amazing artistic work.  In the modern era also there are many African artists who continue to influence the social and political environment of Africa through their artistic work.

Tracy Rose - Tracy Rose is a famous outspoken feminist from South Africa, who is famous for her bold performances and photography. Her artwork includes matters related to politics, sex, body and gender related issues.

Meschac Gaba- Meschac Gaba is known for his traveling exhibition Museum of Contemporary African Art. Unlike traditional painters she uses plywood, stones and plaster for her art work.

Kudzanai Chiurai- He is a very famous artist exiled from Zimbabwe for portraying president Robert Mugabe. He is an important person in African art and the first black receiver of Bachelor in Fine Arts. Corruption, racism, conflict and displacement are some of the important themes of his artistic work.

Nastio Mosquito- He is an onstage performer from Angola who uses political and social statements to depict his art.   Some of his famous artistic work is 9 Artists and Across The Board: Politics of representation.

EI Anatsui- El Anatsui is one of most significant sculptors from Ghana who gets significant international recognition for his artistic work related on historical, social and political concerns.

Julie Mehretu- Julie Mehretu is a young generation artist from Ethiopia. Her lively art focuses on environments of urban life and architecture of 21st century.

Sokari Douglas Camp- She is considered as one of the best African female sculptors who get international attention. Hailing from Nigeria she uses different types of things for her art work such as steel, clothes etc.

Ibrhaim EL Salahi- He is called father of African modernism. He is a Sudanese artist who has done creative art work, based on African and Arabic split.  He developed his own history of art.
