Sometimes, Lord, the simplest
ideas are wisest. When we wonder
how to pray, the answer is readily
"at hand."
Thumb reminds us to pray for
those closest: family, friend,
neighbor, index for our guides,
teachers, preachers; middle for
leaders and those in authority;
ring, the weakest finger, reminds
us to pray for the helpless, sick,
and poor; pinkie for ourselves.
And so, O God, we come holding
out our hands, knowing yours is
outstretched and waiting.
