Kitchen Witchery

It doesn't take a lot of work, time, or money to transform an ordinary kitchen into a magickal workplace. To begin with, there are many simple, yet effective, charms (such as a rope of garlic, a sun-catcher, or pentagram symbols) that can be placed in the kitchen for protection. A sunny kitchen windowsill filled with pots of magical plants not only looks good, but releases magical energies into the room. Even common culinary herbs that are found in the cabinets or nearly every kitchen possess strong magical properties. For instance, basil is traditionally used for exorcism, love, protection, and purification. Parsley is used for fertility, passion, and protection. Sage is used for healing, protection, and prosperity; and thyme is used for clairvoyance, courage, and love. I especially like to grow tarragon in the kitchen window because of it's connections with dragons. Hang a "Kitchen Witch" doll for good luck. In fact this is one one thing that has been in my kitchen since 1986. She's ugly (the quintessential hag) but she's lived in 7 kitchens so far and even when everything else has gotten broken in moves she comes through fine. You should also have your magical spoon. I found a multicolored wooden spoon in a kitchen shop and I use it when I want to put positive energy into something I'm preparing. A well-stocked Witch's kitchen should contain herbs, essential oils, a small coffee grinder used just for grinding herbs for potions (I retired the mortar and pestle years ago -- simply too much work), and an assortment of glass bottles for decanting your potions. I've never found the need to, shall we say keep kosher, with my cookware. Always stir food in a clockwise direction, and be sure to invite the Goddess and God into your new magical workplace. To Safeguard the Cook and Kitchen Aloe has long been considered a magical/medicinal plant. Grow one in your kitchen, or as near your kitchen as you can, to safeguard you from nasty kitchen accidents such as cuts and burns. Dab some aloe gel on your major kitchen appliances, tools, doors and windows to safeguard them as well. Garlic is well known for its protective qualities. Place a bulb of garlic on your kitchen window, or hang a rope of garlic in your kitchen. Do not ever use these for food--remember, they are there collecting negative energy. Periodically, remove the garlic and bury in the earth. Remember to thank the garlic and the earth for their service to you.

Kitchen Magick

*When cooking anything before you use the pan , make the sign of the pentagram in the pan with a fork or knife: this will ensure the wholesomness of your meal. *Dishes of food should be passed clockwise around the table to bless them with postive energy. *Always leave a bit of food on your plate because the old tradition says that if you clean your plate you will only know poverty. *Turn your glass 3 times sunwise before drinking to bless what you are drinking.
Dragon’s Blood: protects the home, sprinkle across doorways to keep out evil Sage: Removes negative energies, purifies the home attracts money Rose Buds: Brings peace into the home Sandalwood: Brings quick success Solomon’s Seal: a pinch in all corners of the home will drive away evil spirits
Witch jars are quick, fun, and typically created with supplies found around the home. For this Witch jar, incorporating items that come from the house is a great way to link the protective magick for your home back into the spell. Look around and see what you can find to personalize this spell. Work this spell on the night of the full moon. For this protective spell you'll need an old glass jar, like an old pickle jar or jelly jar. Wash the jar and lid out thoroughly and allow them to dry. Take a permanent black marker and draw a pentagram on top of the lid. Add to the jar several of the following items: * A clove of garlic * A few stray pet hairs (to add protection for your pets) * A cobweb from your walls * A few leaves from one of the trees in your yard * Old nails * Straight pins * Small bits of broken glass or a few colored marbles * A small pebble or rock from the yard * A straw from your household broom * Sea salt or table salt * The stub or drippings from an old protective spell candle Finally, fill up the rest of the jar with dried beans, barley, and dried rice (to absorb any negativity that is lurking around your home). Now screw the lid onto the jar and give it a good shake. Hold the jar in both hands and enchant the Witch's protective jar with this charm. This Witch's jar is filled with homey and simple things, Now absorb anger and malice, rice, barley, and beans. All negativity is drawn straight into this jar, My household is protected with the seal of the star. Keep the jar tucked away under the kitchen counter or in the corner of the most lived-in room. After a full lunar cycle has passed, at the next full moon, dispose of the jar in a garbage can off of your property. After you dump the jar, turn your back on it and walk away from the negativity. Don't look back. You are moving forward and on to bigger, better things.
1. A quartz crystal placed on or near the stove when cooking makes food taste better. 2. A pot of basil herb grown in your kitchen keeps the area safe from evil forces and negative spirits. 3. Candles keep their shape better and longer when chilled thoroughly in the refrigerator. 4. A witch's kitchen should never be without a lunar calender or chart showing the phases of the moon and its movement through the wheel of the zodiac. 5. A full moon increases extrasensory perception and is the ideal time to prepare and use potions that increase the psychic abilities. 6. Love phiters and aphrodisiacs should always be prepared during the waxing of the moon. 7. The best time to plant an herb or vegetable gardens when the moon is in Cancer, Scorpio, Libra or Pisces. 8. Homemade magickal incenses, sachets and potpourris become more fragrant if aged several months before used. 9. Homemade incense always should be stored in tightly capped or corked jars. 10. Unlucky influences should be kept away from the when cooking or preparing magickal recipes, and this is accomplished by stirring in a clockwise direction. 11. An aloe vera plant should be kept on the kitchen, as its juices are an instant cure for minor kitchen burns. 12. Herbal preparations should never be boiled in aluminum vessels, but in only copper, earthenware or pyrex to avoid contamination of the medicines. 13. Before casting spells or preparing potions, always keep in mind the Wiccan Rede: "Do what ye will an' harm none."
In this pot, I stir to the sun An' follow the rule of harming none Banishment of bane when goin' widdershins; An' with water and salt negativity is cleansed House hold duties are more than chores Magick abounds when mopping floors With this broom, I do sweep To clean my house and safely keep Marigold, Basil, Thyme and Yarrow My spell is cast for a better tomorrow Lemons for joy and apples for health The pow'r within brings great wealth An' in this kitchen, I do pray To truly walk the Witches Way - Copyright 1998, 1999 E.
