What is the proper golf attire? I will start out by saying what NOT to wear. Do not wear blue jeans. Do not wear sleeveless shirts, unless you’re a woman. Women are allowed to wear sleeveless shirts. Collarless shirts are allowed in some courses, but to be on the safe side, especially if you plan to play in a private and exclusive golf course, wear a shirt with a collar. And if possible, tuck your shirt in. The starter may not allow you to tee off if you don’t wear the proper golf attire. You will be forced to buy a golf shirt or a pair of golf pants at the pro shop, and we all know that pro shops almost always OVERPRICE their items!
Women are always concerned with fashion. The style of clothing in golf often changes for women. Therefore, they are not very strict with women when it comes to golf attire. But, ladies, please, wear decent and proper golf clothing.
Wearing a pair of shorts is allowed, yes. How short it is, well, I have not seen any rule against wearing very short shorts. However, I think it’s just proper that you wear a pair with a length that is closer to your knees rather than your undies. Ladies, do not wear ‘peek-a-boo’ shirts, meaning—no plunging necklines. I have not read any rule regarding this matter, however, it is not proper to wear them. Besides, it can be very distracting to your flightmates, especially when you bend over to putt or to get your ball from the hole. Unless, of course, that was your strategy—to get them distracted, then by all means, go ahead and distract the boys! Hihi!
You obviously need to wear golf shoes. Wearing a pair of rubber shoes is allowed, but keep in mind that you may slip and lose your balance if you do not wear spikes. Golf shoes are expensive, yes. But if you can afford to play golf, I will assume that you should be able to afford a pair of golf shoes as well. Find a pair that is very comfortable because you’ll be walking for at least three hours. And if possible, choose a pair that is waterproof. Do not keep your golf shoes stored in a box somewhere for a long time. When you finally wear them, don’t be surprised that at the end of the round, you may be missing the sole of your shoes. That can be embarrassing.
You may need to protect your face from the sun, so wear a cap, a hat or a visor. You may also need to protect your arms from the sun. If you do not want to wear a shirt with long sleeves, buy a pair of cycling sleeves. When it is not that hot anymore, simply remove them. In many bicycle shops, these sleeves cost less than one hundred fifty pesos. Oh, also, as much as possible, use sun block to protect your skin and face.
There are so many brands of golf shirts out there that you can choose from. There are expensive ones, the very expensive branded ones, but there are also cheap ones available everywhere.
You do not have to wear expensive golf clothing. What’s important is that you are comfortable.
