I would love to have your opinions on this controversial topic do you agree/disagree with this story? STATISTICS say we are in the grip of a man drought, but blokes in Queensland say some single women are just too hard to please. The Sunday Mail received a huge response from both sexes to our report last week on Queensland's shortage of men. Census 2006 data revealed by social demographer Bernard Salt found Brisbane was in the grip of a man drought, with single women aged 30 years and over likely to struggle to find a date. Some towns were in a similar predicament, whereas regional centres such as Mackay were "man saturated". However the single men of Queensland say the problem is not the lack of bachelors, but the attitude of some single women. Many of our male bloggers said single women often had a mental checklist for the perfect man, a standard most blokes found hard to live up to. Blogger "Jamie" believes girls are only interested in a man's wallet. "Not all (of them) obviously, but I have seen so much shallowness in girls who, unless you earn big bucks or can give them something in the way of social status, then you're a no-go," he wrote. Brisbane recruitment consultants Danyan Kelly, 27, and Matthew Taylor, 29, have 18 months on the singles scene between them. They said women often conveyed mixed messages, wanting men to buy them a drink but then assuming those who did wanted to sleep with them. Mr Taylor, from Camp Hill, said he found nice guys in Brisbane often finished last and research in the US could prove it. A recent New Scientist magazine article said two studies in the US had found men with anti-social personality traits were more likely to have a prolific sex life. One of the studies, a survey of 35,000 people in 57 countries, found a clear link between dark traits (impulsiveness, narcissism, thrill-seeking and deceitfulness) and the reproductive success of males. Mr Taylor also said women were too reluctant to approach men. "Women certainly don't come up to us. At least not until the end of the night when they have a few drinks in them, and by then the conversation isn't exactly girlfriend material," he said. Surprisingly, single 20-something woman Georgie Skerrett, of Chelmer, agreed. "Everything is at nightclubs now and more about one-night stands than meeting someone for the long term," she said. "Chivalry is dead. ''Guys have gotten lazy but women, in some ways, have been their own worst enemy." However, Sunday Mail blogger "Maria of Logan" hit back at claims women were gold-diggers. "I am confident. I know what I want. (That) doesn't make me a gold-digger." David Lozinski, of Kangaroo Point in Brisbane, came to Australia from the US to find his "Aussie Princess", but so far she has proved elusive. "It's extremely hard (in Brisbane) to meet women in their 30s, especially the single variety," he said. Mr Lozinski wrote to The Sunday Mail to give women some male insight into the dating scene. "Firstly, stop hanging out together in big groups, and put yourself in our shoes," he said. "Approaching one, or even two (women), is intimidating enough for a man." The bachelor also suggested women lose their headphones, switch off their mobile phones and plaster on a smile. "I also believe women aren't consciously aware of their body language . . . often conveying the message to stay away." Finally, Mr Lozinski, who goes by the name FireMyst on RSVP, said women should also take the initiative and approach men: "It's not as easy as the movies make it out to be."
