The meaning of friends is a two way street and there needs to be reciprocation. If you are truly a friend, you would do the same for anyone you are asking for help. There is so much one way "friendship" that has jaded many (I included).
If someone asks to be my friend, they usually make the first attempt and do the nice and right thing. I reciprocate accordingly. If I ask to be someone's friend, it is because I generally want to be their friend, get to know them, a little bit about them because they share many similarities or have something of value to share with me and I with them.
I have made several truly wonderful friends here and found my soul mate Eugene (of whom I love dearly and completely) thanks to Lost Cherry. Everything happens for a reason, and being a mature adult understand the dynamics of this to the fullest extent. The insecurity and self ego boost is great temporarily, but getting caught up in childish games only leads to disappointment in the long run and a further downward spiral when the attention wanes. Then the drama begins for the attention once more. This cycle of chaos is not what I wish in my life, as there is enough in the real world with daily issues that affect me personally (like paying bills, dealing with illness, death, children, family etc...)
True friends know your real name, what's going on in your life, pop in and actually say hello, and remember your birthday and other things that are important to you. They are there when you need them and vice versa.
Of this I recently realized and am going through my lists and do a little cleaning.
Please forgive me but yesterday was my birthday and I really needed my friends to help me get through a tough time. The ones that actually give a damn about me and are not so self absorbed that they couldn't even pop in my shout box to say hi, how are you doing or even reply to any bulletins, messages or shouts I took the time out of my day to post spoke volumes to me.
There are exceptions for those I know were unable to get back to me for some reason I know of and know who you are (I love ya)!
To those I may have missed, please forgive me - I will get back to you today sometime as an emergency came up and my computer was on of which I forgot in the chaos to turn off till very late last night/early this morning.
I am not here to win any popularity contest (or any contest for that fact). I am here to make real friends. I am a conservationist and activist and my mission in life is to change the world - one person at a time for worthy causes like saving the environment, humanitarian efforts, animal rights, and world peace. Granted being human I love to have fun and enjoy a many diverse distractions from music to humor and such so depending on the day - I never know what to expect that of a positive nature and makes me happy.
"Do unto others as you will have done to you". Words that ring and echo in my ears, heart, mind and soul. Being true to myself comes first and foremost.
