4th of July

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. Her breast cancer had metastasized, and the health service would not provide her with Avastin, a drug that is widely used in the United States and Europe to keep such cancers at bay. So, with her oncologist's support, she decided last year to try to pay the roughly £60,000, or $116,000, cost herself, while continuing with the rest of her publicly financed treatment. By December, she had raised £10,000 and was preparing to sell her house to raise more. But then the government, which had tacitly allowed such arrangements before, put its foot down. Hirst heard the news from her doctor. "He looked at me and said, 'I'm so sorry, Debbie. I've had my wrists slapped from the people upstairs, and I can no longer offer you that service,' " Hirst said. "I said, 'Where does that leave me?' He said, 'If you pay for Avastin, you'll have to pay for everything' " - in other words, for all her cancer treatment, far more than she could afford. Officials said that allowing Hirst and others like her to pay for extra drugs to supplement government care would violate the philosophy of the health service by giving richer patients an unfair advantage over poorer ones. Patients "cannot, in one episode of treatment, be treated on the NHS and then allowed, as part of the same episode and the same treatment, to pay money for more drugs," Health Secretary Alan Johnson told Parliament. "That way lies the end of the founding principles of the NHS." But Hirst, who is 57 and was first diagnosed with cancer in 1999, went to the news media, and so did other patients in similar situations. And it became clear that theirs were not isolated cases. In fact, it is widely acknowledged by patients, doctors and officials across the health care system that patients suffering from every imaginable complaint regularly pay for some parts of their treatment while receiving the rest free. [I]n a final irony, Hirst was told early this month that her cancer had spread and her condition had deteriorated so much that she could have the Avastin after all - paid for by the health service. In other words, a system that forbade her to buy the medicine earlier was now saying that she was so sick she could have it at public expense. Hirst is pleased, but only to a point. Avastin is not a cure, but a way to extend her life, perhaps only by several months, and she has missed valuable time. "It may be too bloody late," she said. The endpoint here is the same as it always is with socialist systems: it's financially unsustainable to equalize everyone by providing the best care universally - so instead, the government makes us all equal by giving everyone the worst. This, in the end, is the portrait of what America's health care system would look like under Obama or Hillary: a middle-aged woman dying unnecessarily of breast cancer so we can all feel equal. Hey, it works in Europe!

So I bought ticker messages & rather than the usual "fan me,gimme some love!!!" crap I'm usin' movie quotes or whatever I can dream up. Hey,a little humor goes a long way & if you don't think it's funny,well then here's $5,go buy yourself a sense of humor.
...the longest conversation I've had with anyone on Fubar,all of maybe 100 words between the 2 of us.Whoopee.....at least the person was kind enough to rate me back. I got a third invite from another person (one I'd fanned but didn't return the favor) to join a lounge,I sent them a pm explaining that I'd been invited to 3 lounges already & the reaction to my "Howdy y'all!" was dead silence.So that's why I won't visit the lounges. I'm thoroughly f***in' confused...I asked Support if they got points/fubucks for the invites,they said no,so why in the f*** would anyone invite somebody new when they don't really want anybody????

Lounges

So far I've had 3 invitations to various lounges.I assume that by my accepting the invites the person that invited me gets points/fubucks. Judging from the way I've been 'welcomed' at the lounges,one or two cursory "Hello"s,then silence,I can only infer that new people aren't welcome and that the people who invited me only did so for the points/fubucks. Is there something in my profile that is so hideously repellent that warrants ignoring me? I'd surely like to know.

TEXAS!!!

I live in New Mexico & despite a low-grade rivalry between the Lone Star state & us we get along pretty well. You couldn't pay me enough to live anywhere in Texas. 'fore you Texans get all riled up,I've lived in El Paso(went to HS there),Houston & Corpus Christi. While I don't wanna live there,it's one of my favorite places to visit.Mom & Dad live in San Antone,I know the Riverwalk well,Dick's had the best damn shrimp last summer. Our last adventure in Port Aransas with my brother was so much fun we're goin' back this year....of course it helps that her daddy gave us a week's use of a condo on Padre Island for a week.It has a lighted fishing pier.I'll spend a day out in the Gulf on a boat fishing. Fish fry at our house when we get back! There's a restaurant in Ozona,The Hitchin' Post,the vegetarian plate only has 1/4 lb of meat on it & an extra slice of lettuce. Great chicken fried steak,we also recommend the house special,marinated sirloin tips. To be continued...

Interesting....

When I was referred here my first thought,bein' the gregarious SOB that I am was "Oh good,another place to meet people". Not so much it seems. I was genuinely suprised when the first 2-3 people rated my pic a '10'Then I figured that the polite thing to do was return the favor & rate those people who rated me.I've continued to do that.If I missed anyone I'm sorry. But I've figured it out:It's a way to get points,not make friends.I'd like to thank the people who rated me less than a 10,I do appreciate your honesty. I did get invites to a couple of lounges,I dropped by,but no one seemed interested in talkin' to an old musician.Again,I figure the invites were a way to get more points. But I'll continue to hang out for awhile,there's some nice lookin' ladies around,I just don't expect to make any friends or get to know anybody. I don't expect anybody to read this. I need another shot of Yukon.

Like anybody'll read this crap.... Interestin' place this is,had several 10 ratings on my pic/profile today,thought people were just bein' friendly 'til I realized that you get points for doin' it.In fairness I returned the favor to those folks. Gotta go to the in-laws again tonite,had 2 shots & a beer earlier,better not do anymore,can't wait 'til I get back home tonite.They're nice people,but they're boring & I have an extremely low boredom threshold. Never got over freezing today,right now it's 23F with 14 mph winds for about a 13F wind chill factor. I'll add to this blog at irregular intervals & I won't always be sober when I do.
