PS3 - Ratchet & Clank Future : Tools of Destruction by Insomniac Games
This is the 5th installment of Insomiac's beloved duo of Lombax and Robot buddy : Ratchet & Clank.
These two sarcastic yet loveable do-gooders are out yet again to save the galaxy from impending doom;
is if the galaxy wasn't always in for some sorta doom one way or another.
But this time we start to learn more as to why there are no other Lombax's to be found and of
the current threat to the universe: the Cragmites who were thought to be long ago destroyed
during a great war with the Lombaxes.
Filled with the ever fun to aquire weapons that are signature to this series, R&CFTOD leads us on
another journey into wacky weapon design. Take for instance the groovitron, an orb which mesmerizes
your oppenents into dancing wildly, or the transmorpher which will temporarily turn any hostile
creature into a quite harmless penguin. You'll also have Plasma beasts, and hand held tornado launchers
where you can control your own spinning vortex via the sixaxis motion sensing controller for the PS3.

What made me really enjoy this one was its seemingly flawless design, tight, fluid, fun.
Feels like your playing a Pixar movie from start to finish. Definitely a good time, if you're a fan
of the series, this is a must have. Full of great unlockable content and skins which more games should strive to have.
Makes it worth playing through at least 2 times. I'd give it a 8.75 out of 10, mainly because it's more of the same
that this series has been known for, not really pressing any new bounds other than graphics.

My latest PS3 obsession: Assassin's Creed by UbiSoft
Seemingly set in the holy land during the crusades, Assassin's Creed allows the player to assume
the genetic memories of one of his ancestors, Altair, who was part of an elite brotherhood of master killer.
Stripped of your rank early on, due to some poor judgement calls and failure to obey the sects creed,
your goal is to regain your rank and priveledges while also taking on the invading European Crusaders.
Graphics are stunning, no other way to put it. The player is immersed in an open world game play centered
around 3 huge cities: Jerusalem, Damascus, and Acre and the political struggle between 3 waring parties.
Detail in the game is taken to a new level, as interactions while walking through a crowd are dependant
not only on how the player interacts but the level of awareness in each of the people in the crowd.
For example, guards patrol the streets but unless you are doing something obvious (ie: running away, or have a weapon drawn)
they will pass you by, however if you have already previously had a run in with the law, thye may recognize you
or even a stranger in the crowd may point you out and draw their attention.
As you enter each city on a mission, you need to research your target, understand their habits and intentions and lay out
your own plan for how to accomplish your kill. But even a well planned out execution, can either go wrong, or leave you
exposed once the deed is done, then the game changes to a fast paced race through city streets and alleyways
to even roof tops in an effort to evade the law.
You'll find that helping out your fellow man by saving citizens and scholars will help you in your escape
as vigilante husbands and sons of rescued woman will come to your aid and harrass soldiers to allow you
to slip by, or scholars will allow you to blend in with their crowd to allow you to pass unseen.

Video of gameplay
There's another story going on when you are not playing the assassin, but I don't want to ruin it for
anyone who's not yet played the game; as your given no indication when you buy it that there is anything
other than the backdrop as painted here.
I'd like to see a second of this come out reletively quickly as the first was a blast, but a little
short, maybe 8-12 hours of play, but definitely worth every minute, even if it does get a little
repetitious as the game progresses through its 7 acts. Definitely worth playing I'd give it 9 out of 10.
So traded in two games from my original PS3 line up (Call of Duty 3 and F.E.A.R.) to pickup:
The Darkness puts a neat spin on the traditional FPS (first person shooter) by adding a "demonic" twist. Our anti-hero Jackie Estacado, reminiscent of the crow meets good fellas, gets a suprise on his 21st birthday: his "uncle" Pauly wants to execute him, and he releases an ancient dark curse which haunts his family. The darkness manifests itself as two snake like appendages that can be controlled and be sent out to slitther and eat people's hearts (yes very graphic yum ensues) As well as other various forms.
Video is Graphic...
The characters are decently scripted, humorous, and foul mouthed. Definitely not a game for the weak of stomach as execution style gunplay is involved as well as a proclivity for obseceneties.
Originally based on the TopCow Comic of the same name...
But the game draws you in decent, until you take a side trip after attempting to commit suicide. Jackie ends up in some warped WWII past to meet his grandfather who explains the family curse and tries to help Jackie free himself. My first play through, I tried to be sorta a nice guy, but failed I guess :P Unlocked about 80% of the game and completed it in less than 16 hours so it's rather short. Enjoyable, yet short. And the ending, at least the one I saw (not sure if there are more) kinda left me huh? it's over?? that's it? But with online multiplayer modes this one's sure to get good replay value....
Rainbow Six also soon to be reviewed once I play through all the way....
