Day 12 - A song from a band that you hate
I am bending or flexing the rules slightly on this one. I can’t possibly choose something from a band I hate for 2 reasons. The first being that I’m not sure I “hate” any one particular band, it’s a strong word. Secondly, by definition if I did hate a band I would struggle to pick a song because I wouldn’t know any of them! So, for this, I am choosing a song from the genre of music that I least like although, as with everything, there are exceptions.
I have never really got into rap, hip-hop, grime, dubstep, garage etc. Not entirely sure why but it’s just one of those things. The one exception to this is that I have a fondness for Eminem. I watched 8 mile when it was first released and the movie had a big impact on me, far more than I expected. His book, The Way I am, is a really good read (try it!) and provides a fascinating insight into how he came to the music industry and his outlook on stuff. I personally think that he is a gifted lyricist (go on, listen carefully) and am currently waiting for the postman to deliver his new album. I shall be listening to Zane Lowes interview with him tonight on BBC Radio1 J
I was going to go with Lose Yourself as a song choice; this being the song that he won an Academy Award for, particularly as I love the opening lyrics in the song which are applicable in so many situations.
“Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted. One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?”
However, he performed on the Jonathan Ross show this week and it is that performance, of a song that is getting a lot of radio air play here from the new album, that I’m going for as my choice instead.
Listen all the way through, enjoy (and comment if you feel like it!)
