Just wondering if people think CRT causes racial division, guilt or paint the USA as a racist country or contain systemic racism. First CRT is a study of effects racist laws, like Separate but equal doctrines, Jim Crow laws, and Dred Scott supreme court case, which says blacks were not citizens, could not vote, had no rights under the constitution and were not entitled to sue, had on reducing financial opportunity, inability to buy property, unjust prosecutions and lost education. Racism was embedded in the fabric of USA institutions for hundreds of years. Many of these laws and polices no longer exist but the harm they caused is still felt.
A: Racism is an individual choice, not systemic in US society and the last racist laws were repealed around the year 2000. CRT just rehash and stir up things best left in the past.
B: The only way to learn from history is the know the true story, of the whens, hows and whys. Then you need to know the consequences. CRT just looks at the laws, policies and repercussions of racism. It does not lay blame, looks at remedies or changes historical facts. |
