She Had a Great Day SAN ANTONIO — Junior Krista Sitka went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and UTSA collected the program’s 500th victory with a 7-1 win against Sam Houston State in the second half of a Southland Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Bearcats used a three-run seventh inning to rally for a 6-4 decision in the opener at Roadrunner Field. With the split, the Roadrunners improved to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in league, while Sam Houston moved to 9-9 and 3-2. Sitka was a triple shy of the cycle in the nightcap to lead an 11-hit explosion by the Roadrunners. The first baseman had a three-run home run, a double and a pair of singles and was a combined 6-for-7 with six RBIs on the day. Freshman Amber Anderson was 2-for-4 with a two-run double, while freshman Ashley Kappler also had a pair of base hits. Sophomore Emily Humpal worked a complete game to move her record to 2-0 in conference and 4-4 overall. The Corpus Christi native allowed one run on five hits in her second straight victory in the circle. After a pair of scoreless frames, Sam Houston struck first on an RBI-triple by Alex Survant that was grounded just inside the first base bag to plate Hailey Wiginton, who reached on a single. UTSA responded in the bottom of the frame on Sitka’s first home run of the season, a line drive shot just inside the foul pole down the left field line that scored Anderson and senior Leanne Risberg, who both singled with two outs. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 7-1 with four runs in the sixth. Junior Cassie Miller got things started with a single through the left side of the infield and base hits by junior Rudi Cantu and Kappler loaded the bases with one down. Anderson then drilled a Brandi Crnkovic offering into the gap in right center to push across two runs. After a popup, Sitka provided the final margin with ground ball single up the middle. Tomi Garrison allowed three runs on five hits in four innings of work in the loss to fall to 2-2. Survant led the Bearkats at the plate with a pair of hits and the lone RBI. Sam Houston rallied for a 6-4 win in a seesaw battle in game one. The Bearkats got the first punch in with three runs in the fourth. Back-to-back walks to Calli Wood and Sarah Parich opened the frame and a sacrifice bunt from Mandy Gegen put runners at second and third with one out. Amy Brown singled up the middle to drive in both runners and Casie Everritt forced the third run home with a fielder’s choice groundout. UTSA grabbed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Risberg singled to lead off and a single by sophomore Kristin Kappler and a walk to freshman Kristin Wehmeyer loaded the bases with nobody out. Sitka brought the first run home on a base hit up the middle, while junior Kelly Cato drew a walk to push another run across. Anderson then drilled a double to left center to give the Roadrunners a 4-3 lead. Sam Houston began its rally with a single from Survant and a walk to Kendra Spivey. Wood advanced both runners with a sac bunt and Parich lifted a sac fly to left to knot the score at 4-4. Gegen reached on a walk and Brown provided the game-winning single to right to push two runs home. Sitka led the Roadrunners’ offense with two hits, while sophomore Danyé Holmes (4-3) allowed five earned runs on seven hits in the loss. The left-hander ran her scoreless innings streak to 23 innings and punched out five Bearkats. Crnkovic gave up four runs on seven hits in running her record to 4-4. Brown led the Bearkats with two hits and four RBIs. The rubber game is slated for noon Sunday. Junior Krista Sitka went 2-for-3 with a run scored on Wednesday in leading UTSA to a three-game SLC season-opening sweep at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. CORPUS CHRISTI — Sophomore Danyé Holmes tossed five scoreless innings for her fourth straight win and junior Krista Sitka went 2-for-3 with a run, as UTSA completed a Southland Conference series sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a 6-1 victory on Wednesday at Chapman Field. The Roadrunners improved to 8-7 overall with the sweep, marking the third 3-0 league start in the last six seasons and the first since 2006. The Islanders fell to 7-11 and 0-3. A day after tossing a complete-game shutout in the series opener, Holmes struck out three and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning in running her record to 4-2 on the season. The Sugar Land native allowed the lone hit, a single by Sandy Schumann with one out in the fifth, and one walk in extending her scoreless innings streak to 19 and 2/3. Sitka had two of UTSA’s three hits, while junior Rudi Cantu had the other, but the Roadrunners took advantage of eight walks and three A&M-Corpus Christi errors in the fourth straight win in the all-time series. After a scoreless first inning, the Roadrunners jumped on the board with four runs in the second. Back-to-back walks to senior Leanne Risberg and sophomore Kristin Kappler and a wild pitch put runners at second and third with one out. Sitka then reached on an infield single and junior Kelly Cato followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to plate the first run of the afternoon. Another wild pitch brought Kappler home and moved Sitka to third, and Cantu then drove in the third run with a base hit to left center. Cantu stole second and then third after a walk to freshman Ashley Kappler and another free pass to freshman Amber Anderson loaded the bases. Holmes then drew a walk to force Cantu home with the fourth run of the inning. UTSA tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth. Ashley Kappler plated junior Chelsey Chapman — who pinch ran for Sitka following her second base hit — with a bases-loaded sac fly to right and Anderson knocked in Cato, who walked, from third on a ground ball to second base. The Islanders finally broke through for a run in the bottom of the frame on a bases-loaded infield single by Andrea Simancas off freshman Morgan Luksa, who was on in relief of Holmes. Luksa got out of the jam with a groundout and allowed just the one run on four hits. Stacie Tassin allowed four earned runs on two hits and six walks in falling to 3-7. Addie Tallman gave up one earned run (two total) in five innings of relief for the Islanders. The Roadrunners will host Sam Houston State in a three-game conference series this weekend at Roadrunner Field. 2009 gets Started Friday

Softball sets sights on returning to top of Southland Conference this spring Courtesy: UTSA Athletics Release: 02/04/2009 tn_1524003199.jpg tn_3453540923.jpg Krista Is my 21 year old Stud Softball player .Please feel free to check her out all season at UTSA.com Go Runners Lori Cook, who owns the highest winning percentage in school history, begins her fourth year as head coach in 2009. With eight letterwinners returning, including four all-conference performers in senior outfielder Leanne Risberg, junior second baseman Rudi Cantu, junior first baseman Krista Sitka and sophomore pitcher/utility player Danyé Holmes, and a promising group of nine newcomers on campus, prospects for the 2009 UTSA softball season are high. Sitka has become a familiar face at first base, starting 106 games at the bag the past two seasons. She collected honorable mention All-SLC accolades last year after hitting .270 — .297 in conference games — with 41 hits, six doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 34 RBIs. Also an excellent fielder, the Dobie High product has a career .987 fielding percentage and ranks sixth all-time at UTSA with 626 putouts. “Sitka is as solid as we’ve ever had defensively at first base,” Cook said. “When she makes an error, it really catches your eye because it’s so rare. She’s a rock for us on the infield and may be our best clutch hitter at the plate. She really produced with the bat in her second year and the most amazing part was that she batted behind Danyé for most of the season, which is no easy task. She was very relaxed and confident at the plate in the fall, so we expect her to have an even better spring.”
