1885 U.S. Supreme Court case of Murphy v. Ramsey & Others - The judges' ruling stated, "Certainly no legislation can be supposed more wholesome and necessary in the founding of a free, self-governing commonwealth...than that which seeks to establish it on the basis of the idea of the family, as consisting in and springing from the union for life of one man and one woman in the holy estate of matrimony; [the family is] the sure foundation of all that is stable and noble in our civilization; the best guarantee of that reverent morality which is the source of all beneficent progress in social and political improvement."
1986 U.S. Supreme Court case of Bowers v. Hardwick - The judges' ruling stated, "Condemnation of those practices is firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian moral and ethical standards. Sodomy was a criminal offense at common law and was forbidden by the laws of the original 13 States when they ratified the Bill of Rights. In 1868, when the 14th amendment was ratified, all but five of the 37 states in the Union had criminal sodomy laws. In fact, until 1961, all 50 states outlawed sodomy...providing criminal penalties for sodomy performed in private and between consenting adults...quoting William Blackstone's description of homosexual sex as an 'infamous crime against nature', worse than rape, and 'a crime not fit to be named.'"
Where were you when George Washington took a stand against the practice? HUH?
On March 10, 1778, as recorded in "The Writings of George Washington", a general court marshal trial was held for Lieutt. Enslin of Colo. Malcom's Regiment for attempting to commit sodomy with John Monhort, a soldier. Commander in Chief [George Washington] approved the sentence [to be dismissed from service with infamy] and ordered Enslin to be drummed out of camp the next morning by all the Drummers and Fifers in the Army never to return.
