Nix the Vixen's blog: "Good reads"

Book picks for September

A week of doctors visits has driven my book reads up from one a week to six a week. In this flurry, I've found at least two note-worth books I'd suggest to anyone with a pulse. Note: these aren't thought provoking intellectual type reads, like my favs, Emerson and Nietzsche, but they're pretty damn entertaining!!! The first book on my list is actually a trilogy by Anne Rice. It starts with The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. This erotic story picks up where the childish fairy tale left off... The Prince claims Beauty as his sex slave... Beauty acquires a whole new perspective on life, in a fantasy world only Rice could so elegantly create. "...As he drew near her now, he thought he must be merciful and make her punishment quick. And seating himself on the bed, he reached out for her, and pulling her wrists into his left hand he brought her naked body down over his lap so that her legs dangled over the floor helplessly. "Very very lovely," he said, his right hand moving languidly over her rounded buttocks, forcing them ever so slightly apart. ... and now with his right hand he spanked her buttocks hard and heard her cries grow louder. It wasn't really much of a slap. But it left a red mark on her. And he spanked her hard again, and felt her writhing against him, the heat and moisture of her sex against his leg, and again he spanked her..." Personally, I hate fairy tales, always have... I was jaded, even as a kid, I think. But if I'm going to read one, shouldn't it be deliciously sinful? I thought so. Second book on my list of must reads is Sex with Kings, by Eleanor Herman. Hundreds of years of history of mighty kings and their whores. (This is the history they should have taught in high school. Why is education so regulated and boring? No matter what school you go to, what books you read, everyone gets the same drab depiction of historical events. If they had included texts like this book in school, maybe I would have paid attention.) The stories range from the pitiful to the hilarious, and leave you with a look of disbelief on your smiling face. I muttered a simple "Incredulous" after reading this passage: "The bootylicious trio of Destiny's Child has changed faces numerous times over the past six years, changes marred by rancor, backbiting, and lawsuits. But the troubled group has nothing on the four treacherous Mailly-Nesles sisters who in the 1740s all jumped into Louis XV's bed and, claws unsheathed, literally fought one another to the death for the king." See... history wasn't so boring huh? Hope you enjoy my picks!
