Move to Mexico

Well we made it,  though a few times I was wondering if we would. Everything went fine till we got to the boarder, then it got really interesting. It seems that we had failed to go through a customs broker and since this was Friday evening he would not be in the office till the following Monday morning, also our inventory was only in English and needed to be in Spanish. The big truck could not come into country without the proper paperwork and I was already across the border, what to do?

We parked the big truck on the U.S. side of the border and we all went into the small border town and got a place for the night. The next morning we went back to see what we could do about the big truck and all our stuff. We found a person there that spoke English and he agreed to translate our list into Spanish, cost, $15.

We then took our newly translated list to the very people that told us the night before that we needed the broker and this time they did some calculating and number crunching and came up with a fee that we had to pay at the border banking center. Took care of that and they sent us on our way with what we thought were the proper papers in hand.

About 80 miles down the road that fantasy was shattered at the last of the check points.

We were told that we had broken the rules and could not proceed till we got the customs broker, on Monday.

Well after at least 2 hours of us pleading and begging for mercy from a very pretty young gal and her making more than a few calls to her boss we were allowed to continue on our way. We were never in any danger just their way of telling us that we broke the rules and don’t do it again. We promised to be good kids and got the heck out of dodge.

Other than that the big truck ran great, oh yeah one other thing happened, one of the towns we went through does not allow big trucks to go through town but must take another road. So us not knowing this and not reading Spanish proceeded to go through the center of town. We did not get very far before we all got pulled over, it seems the local police there take that law very seriously at least that is what we made of it with all their gesturing and talking, none of which could we understand. Finally they let us go on only to pull us over again. Seems we did not get the message the first time and this time we were directed to the right street.

Oh what fun, that night we found a motel that also had a pool and the temp was just right for a refreshing swim, we needed it.

Then on to here with out further incident. We introduced our friend and the truck driver and traveling companion, who was also moving with us, to Mexican fast food, kind of like a road side restaurant with out the restaurant. Just meat cooking on a grill, some tables and chairs, something to drink and great food, and oh yeah, salsa.

Well we are now in our rented house, a 2 bedroom with kitchen and bath for the grand sum of $54 per month. We have been working on getting everything settled before going back to Washington for our friends Rick and Marj, that’s next week and I am sure we will have even more fun adventures to write about....
