Homeopathy has been labeled with natural treatments which claim to cure not only the symptoms but the root cause of the main ailment or disease. Even the rare cases of health complaints are known to be solved by homeopathic treatments. Hence, this practice has garnered more and more clients as it is considered safer than the conventional medical methods and drugs.
However, with the conflicts arising after Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has conducted review and reconsideration of homeopathic regulation and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has stepped in to reprimand FDA of advertising stunts, studies were held to measure the real effects of homeopathy among costumers.
One of those which conducted the study is The Peterson Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to learning about alternative, complementary and integrative medicines.
According to the systematic review, a lot of people are convinced that homeopathy does not impose basic harm even when critics point out that the results are mere placebo. There may be complaints of the lack of proper bylaws and rules when it comes to the implementation of homeopathic treatment to health but since there is no existing record showing the side effects of this practice, individuals believing in it continue to do so.
In the latter part of the report though, new conclusions were found. By comparing it to other studies and reviews, TPG has found critical factors of side effects possible in taking homeopathic treatment. They are as follows:
1.Nosodes
Nosodes is a homeopathic term for homeopathic immunization. These are mostly used as an alternative for conventional immunization mostly for children but data to support the claim is lacking. Various governments support this vaccination and give permission to immunize. This practice is open in Jakarta, Indonesia where homeopathic practices are rampant. Much to the concern of the authorities, this can lead to more parents denying proper immunization for their child.
2.Dilution
While most homeopathic treatments are highly diluted, others labeled as CAM may not be and may contain substantial amount of active ingredients. Like any drug or dietary supplement that contains chemical ingredients, these homeopathic products may cause side effects or drug interactions. Negative health effects from homeopathic products of this type have been reported.
3.Alcohol content
Liquid homeopathic remedies may contain alcohol. The FDA allows higher levels of alcohol in these remedies than it allows in conventional drugs. This can be dangerous to those with low tolerance of alcohol or with alcoholic allergies.
