Wow! Definitely had a big adventure today! I had to stop at a rest stop and sleep in my car last night before reaching ND, was too tired to drive. Managed to sponge bath, changed clothes, into my pajamas. At 630am, drove to Bismarck, ND . No phone and internet service . Met my "nephew-in-law" at work, and gave him the winter jacket I promised. Had my first breakfast at McDonald to get wifi, and did some miscellaneous work in my computer. Then off to ND's State Capitol Bldg. Didn't get any State's seal's souvenir. Head to MT @ 1330H heading to Helena to MT's State's Capitol Bldg. I think I bit off more than I can chew today. No cellphone service @ ND even up to MT, glad I picked up another map and have garmin with me! Headed to Helena, MT. LOL, 94 West was okay, enjoying the scenery, but hwy 12 was nice but desolate and void of civilization in most part! You know this feeling of uncertainties! What if garmin fails and lost satellite connection!, and running out of gas! I used up half of the gas in the tank, concern about running low on gas. Finally ran into Jake's Garage @ Melstone,MT. An auto repair/ gas station run by an old man with his daughter vacationing from NY. Full service and even cleaned my windshield of bugs for free- gas@ 3.59!
After hours and miles of driving, road constructions on part of the road, some detours, Garmin asked me to take another route heading for a more desolate road.I checked the map and decided to continue with hwy 12, several more gas stations along the way, but still as desolate as the rest of the road. Heading west, sun hitting my face and can barely see the road ahead. But concerned of only 3 more hours of daylight and it will be dark soon. Enjoying the beautiful scenery turned to dreaded concern of being stuck in the middle of nowhere, void of houses and no means of communication, though I have plenty of provisions with me, driving in solitude, I came across 4 deers crossing the road, they stopped and stared at me, the little one was trying to play with the mom. So I stopped @75mi/hr, waited and uttered to myself,"c'mon deers, move along so I can keep on driving! " Once they disappeared, I told myself "Stupid-- where's your camera?"
So moving along in solitude, no radio station signal, I was glad to see a few trucks heading opposite direction, caught up with a few vehicles ahead of me. Topped off the gas tank some more. Came across a few local bars and a hotel called "All Seasons Inn and Suites, I decided to continue driving, Then garmin started giving me more instructions going nowhere. It was about 2030H, and decided to go back to that hotel and checked in @ $99.75/night. No sense trying to make it to Helena in the dark, and uncertain about the road. More to come!
