"I Kissed A Vampire" (found on youtube) should have been cheesy; after all, it is a musical about vampires. But as I watched Lucas Grabeel fighting his transformation, I started singing along with the songs. And when it ended, I found myself wishing that the hour and a half long musical was longer.
For me, there are only two dreamy vampires, Grabeel's Dylan in "I Kissed A Vampire" and Brad Pitt's Louis de Pointe du Lac in "Interview With A Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" and neither is sparkly like the vampires in the Twilight books/movies. Dylan and Louis are fighting an inward battle between their human kindness and their vampire hunger. The only light part of their stories is their human side.
In "I Kissed A Vampire", the darkness is represented in rock, well a pop/rock/musical style. The villian, Trey Sylvania played by Drew Seeley, is a goth rocker with several outfits (some crazier than others) one of which is a "Karate Kid" inspired headband and red smoking jacket. But the cheesiest part was the outside scenes of Sylvania's castle home. Though Dr. Dan Helsing played by Chris Coppola is also pretty cheesy.
Oh and for those more interested in the females in this movie, Sylvania's female vampire followers fit just about every rocker style possible. And Adrian Slade's Sara Lane stradles the line between hard rocker and girl next door.
With the many new vampire tv shows and movies, are vampires becoming has beens?
Vampires have always been my favorite monsters. Nosferatu to Bram Stokers' Dracula, vampires have been portrayed as monsters. But now there are shows like the Twilight Saga, vampires are portrayed with humanity.
I don't know about the rest of the world, but I feel that vampires should still have the fear factor.
