Sir, thank you for your service & sacrifice for our country!

One day a young boy walked up to an old man. The young boy said" Hello sir." The old man turned his head and stared at the boy. After a few moments passed the old man spoke"Dear boy, listen to me on this one, always love everyone, never hate. Always do better then you did the day before. Always do what is right, do not give up on your dreams. Do not give in to the easy way." The young boy nodded his head and asked"Why are you always so sad?" The old man dropped his head and spoke low and slowly"When the call came I was too afraid to answer and I didn't agree with the cause. You dad, my son, answered that call. He went off to a far distant land and he did not come back. Last time I saw him I did not even shake his hand or say a word. i was so mad at him. I regret not going in his place." The old man just turned and walked away. 14 years has passed from that day and the old man lay in his bed deathly ill. The old man heard a noise and opened his eyes. Before him he saw a lean, strong young man in a green uniform. The old man said" Why?" The young man turned to his side and bent down. As he rose up he was carrying a small child, a baby. The young man turned back to the old man and said" Grandpa, you have a great-grandson. My son is why I wear this uniform. not the glory, not the honor, but for the sole reason that I do this so he doesn't have to." The young man hand the little boy to his grandfather and says"Now it is my turn to go. I love everyone. I never showed hate. I do better every day. Let me go old man. This I must do." The old man smiled and said" Go my boy. Do better every day. I love you, my grandson, my Soldier, my hero." And the young man walked out.

And as I lay here laying in my own blood, I think"Why? Why did this happen? I am not a soldier, why did I get shot? Why must I die?". I open my eyes and I see a tattered man in a green uniform with an American Flag patch and I hear him say"US Army, don't worry, we will take you to safety".
