Life's Greatest Secret I don't know anyone who doesn't want a life filled with love. In order for this to happen, the effort must start within us. Rather than waiting for the other people to provide the love we desire, we must be a vision and the source of love. We must tap into our own loving-kindness in order to set an example for others to follow suit. It has been said that "the shortest distance between two points is an intention". This is certinaly true with regard to a life filled with love. The starting point or foundation of a life filled with love is the desire and commitment to be a source of love. Our attitude, choices, acts of kindness, and willingness to be the first to reach out will take us toward this goal. The next time you find yourself frustrated at the lack of love in the world, try an experiment. Forget about the world and other people for a few minutes, instead, look into your own heart. Can you become a source of greater love? Can you think loving thoughts outward toward the rest of the world whom you feel don't deserve it? By opening your heart to the possibility of greater love, and by making yourself a source of love (rather than getting love) as a top priority, you desire. You'll also discover something truly remarkable. The more you put emphasis on being a loving person, which is something you can control-and less emphasis on receiving love, which is something you can't control-you'll find that you have plenty of love in your life. Is it better to have love and lost then to not love at all? The question I would ask some of you is this. Is it better to have loved someone than to have never loved at all? Some of you would say no and some would say yes. My philosophy on this subject is simple. Yes it is. I know some have been hurt and hurt very badly. I also know that this hurt has caused them to close their hearts to love again. This is such a mistake. This hurt we have all experienced in our lives. It is just life's lessons to us. It teaches us to never make those mistakes that we made in past loves but shows us that love does exist. I know that for some of you the experiences that you have had have been in some ways devastating. Please don't give up on love. By giving up, and closing your hearts, you are passing up those chances at the best experiences life has to offer you. Although at times this seems difficult we need to still be guarded but not shut off. We all have special gifts and special qualities to offer each other. By closing yourself off to love you are closing yourself off to those special gifts and qualites in people. Many of you have heard me say the saying, "Unforgiveness is a poison that you drink and expect the other person to die." If you hold those past loves accountable for all that they have done to you in the past, you are missing out on your future because of this poison that you are drinking and not letting go of. Think about this.....they have moved on and it is your time to do the same. All the anger, hurt and ill feelings you have stored up is not affecting them it is only effecting you. For they have moved on to a new journey in their life and you are still in the past on the old journey because you cannot let go of the poison to move on. Let it go. It isn't easy but trust me you can and will survive and be the happiest you have ever been.
