My 3 yr old will be 4 in May. She is constantly sucking her thumb.

I have had a couple people tell me to put soap on her thumb or hot pepper but I can't bring myself to do either one. Has anyone else ever had this issue with one of their kids or going through it as well and if so what ideas would you recommend to get her to stop??
