EVIRONMENTAL

It is extremely unfortunate that the concept of our 'environment' has become such a controversial and heated topic in society today. Whenever something becomes controversial, the two main political sides split into their respective 'camps' and the entire subject becomes tainted with political mudslinging and obfuscation of the facts. We should not allow ourselves to become blinded by rhetoric, propaganda or outright lies. Few things are more important than the actual planet on which we live, without it we would literally have nothing. We would not exist. So no matter how you see our Earth, as a spiritual motherly caregiver, or as a hunk of spinning rock on which life evolved, it should be equally important to us all to make sure that we keep it healthy, keep it protected and sustainable. The truth is that in many ways we are polluting our planet, poisoning parts of it, cutting down and paving over vast areas of it, toxifying our air, rivers, lakes and oceans, overfishing, overhunting, spilling oil from our tankers, and quite possibly contributing to the warming of our planet overall. It is not our job, or anyone's, to scare you into acting, to insist that certain things are leading to our ultimate demise, or are irreversibly damaging to the planet. But it is YOUR JOB to determine these things for yourself, to ignore what the politically motivated people in the media say, and do what you believe to be right. Remember that we only get one Earth, and no amount of money or economic growth can buy our way out of self-made disasters, so let's avoid them! Being an 'evironmentalist' is simply acknowledging that we must seek a balance between our current human desires and the ability to pass the Earth on indefinitely to future generations. It is not 'radical'. It is not 'liberal'. It is common sense to want to protect our own home. So let's be sensible and protect it! STRIVE...

As we are all surely aware, life is a complicated web of inter-tangled ideas, concepts, theories and beliefs. Some people lean more towards the 'scientific' approach to living their lives, dealing with life rationally, logically, strictly or even mathematically. Others take a more spontaneous and free-spirited view of the world and tend to lean in a more 'creative' or unrestrained direction. However, if we want to truly be all we can be as human beings, and reach closer to fulfilling our highest potential as individuals and as a society, it is our firm belief that we should educate ourselves, and thereby become knowledgeable in as many viewpoints, subjects and topics which relate to our further growth as possible. Growth in a purely mental sense, and also in an emotional and spiritual sense. This 'holistic' education should serve to 'round out' our minds and inform us on multiple levels, allowing us to gain deeper and broader perspective on ourselves, the world, and our fellow humans here on Earth. So go ahead and increase your intelligence! Dive into these subjects, even if you've never found yourself wildly interested in them before, and know that each one holds a piece of the puzzle which helps to unlock a better and more hopeful future for all of us. Remember, if we want the world to change, we all must start by changing ourselves, and that means our HEARTS and our MINDS. Be free-spirited AND logical. Be mathematical AND artistic! Stretch your mind and push yourself in whole new ways. Never confine yourself solely to what you have become thus far, and always reach toward becoming something more powerful and more meaningful. Such a strange, beautiful, ever-changing thing. it is clear to see that as civilizations grew, not only did their societies change and grow, but so did their concepts of 'society' itself. Even our concepts of what society was 100 years ago bears little resemblance to how we see it today. Advancements in science, the arts, psychology, music; they have massively impacted our culture, how we interact, and how we see ourselves and each other. Sometimes, our perceptions of our society can make us sad, disappointed or angry, while at other times it makes us smile with pride at our accomplishments, happy with the comforts and pleasures that we have attained for ourselves. It would be foolish to ever think that we have reached our peak or plateau as a society, numbed by our modern world and all of its over-stimulations. Whether we want it or not, or realize it or not, society will continue to change, adapt, evolve, much like a living organism. And we shouldn't forget that there are many directions that it can go. We could continue down the path we are currently on, which for all of its benefits is also extremely money-driven, celebrity-obsessed, philosophically and intellectually shallow, and unfortunately engaged in wars around the world which we are told are necessary to 'spread' our society, or our ideas of it, to other nations so they will more closely resemble our own. But rarely do we take the time to look ourselves in the mirror and ask: what exactly do we like about ourselves and our way of life? What exactly do we dislike, and how can we work to change it? If we are honest, we all know that we could be doing a lot better for ourselves, and doing better for the other nations we claim we want to help. The only realistic way to change society is to again change our perceptions of society. What it can be, what it ought to be. We must shift our minds to become more aware of ourselves and each other, to become more honest and realistic about our path towards the future, and what we want to ultimately accomplish in this never-ending journey we call society.
