The lights went faint out on street eighteen They flickered and flashed ‘til the sky went green There I was in the dawn of eve Nothing but my guitar and my wanting to leave So I caught the next train hoping to make it home Dazeled by a lime sky on the streets I roam It was almost midnight when I heard that man fall Twelve miles away but I heard his voice call “Oh darling! Hear my one last cry Come home to me with wings you fly.” I flew to that man knowing we’ve been apart With thunder in my soul and wisdom in my heart I went back to that man like waves return to sea That man holds the love that was meant for me And the lights were radiant with an emerald blaze As I wandered home In my mind’s own haze

If you’re still in your depression Than that’s the last impression You portray And if the sadness persists Keep the hope that exists For today If those tears just keep on rolling There’s still a faith that’s flowing Deep inside Look not to just an angry place Soon the frowns will be off your face In time So if your last impression Is still that deep depression Turn away The sorrow brings you down And people all around Won’t want to stay Then loneliness will creep in No happy days will begin For a while So let the light shine through you You’ll find it’s not hard to do Just to smile
