Yesterday, I caught my neighbor using my clothes dryer. I live in a duplex and I am responsible to pay for my utilities. I did notice that when these new neighbors moved in about 6 months ago, it seamed as though my utility bills increased but I didnt know why. We have a shared basement and when I went down to do a load of laundry; I found that my dryer was very hot as though it had just been running. The neighbor was down there so I asked him if the dryer had been turned on and he told me that he only used it for 10 minutes because he didnt think I was home. I was so infuriated, that I had to walk away. The dryer was so hot that I knew it had been running for longer then 10 minutes.
Today, my father is going to install a kill switch on the dryer (which my washer already has one so I know they have not been using my washer). Now, both machines will not be able to be used unless I flip a switch that is inside my apartment.
My question for you my friends and family feel I should report my neighbors behavior to the landlord. I do not want to involve the landlord because they will not be able to repeat this behavior because both my machines will be disabled when Im not using them. Mind you, I had a lot of problems with the old tenant which made living in the same house uncomfortable and I dont want to go through that again.
Should I call the landlord and report their behavior to him or just fix the problem and not bring it up again?
