I've just recently started watching that show, Intervention. If you are not familiar with it, it is a show about alcoholics and drug addicts. Their families plan a surprise intervention to try to get them the help they need. This is at the end of the show. The first 2/3 of it is a documentary type of look into their life and how they got to be the way they are. Watching this show has made me face my own addiction and I want to share my story with you.
This is Melissa's story
Melissa has agreed to be in a documentary about addiction.
She does not know she will soon face an intervention.
Melissa grew up in a small town. She was just the most beautiful little baby. So sweet. So innocent. "We don't know what happened" her family says.
Growing up, Melissa was a very bright, very ambitious child. But in her early pre-teen years, something changed. She started experimenting with drugs. First it was coke. Later on down the line, she needed something more. The coke just wasn't working for her anymore. She finally upgraded to Cherry Coke and then Vanilla when the cherry wasn't enough.
That's when things got out of control. She turned to pills to make herself feel better. She told herself she was only into the major drugs because of the headaches. Pain pills make everything all better. They make the hurting stop. But were these pills also covering up her emotional pain caused by a broken home and a painful childhood?
Her family decided that enough was enough. She was using everyday and would take up to four pills a day. She claims they are only to help her head but her family knows better. They know what a dangerous drug this is.
Melissa is addicted to Extra Strength Excedrine.
Will she accept the help offered to her or will she end up back out at the CVS trying to get her next fix?
