What are you waiting for?

Let me start this blog with a story ...PLEASE ENDULGE ME, for i must set the stage... i joined the army in 1987... My first real assignment was to an ADA unit...{AIR DEFENSE ARTILLARY}//my MOS {JOB} was a communications specialist... a month after being assigned to this unit parts of the batallion were assigned to a field excercise that was to last for 45...IN THE FIELD... we loaded up the equipment on rail heads bound for a small town called Caliente Nevada my first night of guard duty watching the equipment i was BLOWN AWAY by the view i had seen... i never seen a shooting star b4 in my life..that night looking up in the sky at that very moment in that very second in time i beheld so many shooting stars i was left breathless...never b4 and never since have i seen such a wonder of celestrial beauty... the next day we drove out to the town of rachel, there the main HQ was set up... and between rachel and a town called tonopa we were spread out , setting up a grid of communications... we were doing this excersise in conjuction with a small group of NM reserveists...they had the hawk systems... BTW my unit was a patriot unit.{yes the same patriot missile u heard of in saudi back in 90. we had to integrate the systems between hawk and patriot missels systems. along with us there was a part of the germany air and our air force doing this excersise...they had to learn how and if the missiles would b able to track and identify friendly's and hostiles, and then take them out... we were told that we WERE NOT ALLOWED to take pics of any thing we saw. NOW FOR MY REALIZATIONS... It wasnt until in the late 90's when area 51 was declassified that i was watching a documentary on the military channel that i learned of my whereabouts on during those 45 days in nevada... turns out that i was smack dab in the middle of area 51. now imagine how u would feel to learn u were in a place that had been so secretiveand well guarded.. i sat in shear astonishment when this came to me... fast forward to 2007...my best friend since 6th grade lives in MT. HOME idaho. She was married to a man in the airforce and that is where he was stationed. i was at a garage sale and a young man had a video playing in a tv home system, this was talking about an exercise the airforce now conduts on a yearly bases..and it started in 1988..called OPERATION RED FLAG everything that they talked about and did is what happened during that very first operation back in 1988... this operation has NOW HIT THE 20 YEAR MARK. now imagine how would u feel..to learn how u were a part..of such an EXPANSIVE exercise that has lasted for so long...and be humbled by the fact and comforted by the knowledge that u played a small part, in an everyday situation...doing what u were told to do??? i realized then that every LITTLE action i do and am a part of makes a difference...it may not be right away... but it makes a difference down the road... and to this day i am humbeled to know i was a part of something so bigh even though i thought it was small
i am a certified nurses aid...i do both home care, private duty and nursing home... lending a simple helping hand to an elder of mine... compassion at a basic level... the simpelist of love given freely... i sit and listen to their lifes adventures... some i admire... some i feel sorry for... i realize i dont want to be one who walks around saying i wish i did this and i wish i did that.... i will...am...and shall alwyas be a person who says I DID THAT!!!!
