Do you really feel that jails and/or prisons are really doing anything to curb crime on the streets?
I mean think about it. These people do a crime and really don't get a punishment. The families of these people and the victims suffer far more than the prisoners do. While we are happy to get the bad guys off the streets, the families of the prisoners turn to government aid as their source of income. The victims and their families have the trama of the crime to overcome with all that comes with it.
The prisoners are feed 3 meals a day, allowed to watch TV, have gyms to work out on, access to education, rights, and many, many other things that most of them couldn't even imagine affording on the outside while their families have lost a person who could have been working to feed his/her family.
Since 9/11, ALL criminal databanks have been linked through the Patriot Act. Potential employers can and do see your criminal background as well as your credit report. The difference between us and the criminals is that they have the option SOMETIME of sealing their criminal background where say "Joe Blow" has one DUI and can be seen by anyone who has your signature allowing them to check you out for a job.
If a criminal is not able to seal his record, many potential employers will not hire him/her citing them as a potential liability. So, the former criminal not being able to get a job commits a crime because he can't get a real job.
We are building more and more "country clubs" for these criminals. So, given what I have just pointed out, do you really think the prison system is deterring any crime on the streets? |
