CG's blog: "grandma"

They discharged grandma after it was decided that she was going to stay in until they found a place for her in a facility. The doctor trumped everyone who was at the meeting ( he was not there) and said she was good to go home. She lasted 2 days of feeling good.... now she is back to not getting dressed, not bathing herself (sponge bath). She is not trying to do things on her won. Home care was supposed to be in place when she came home, but is just getting set up now, and not starting till maybe next week. She gets tired out from walking to the kitchen and back. She gets worried about when I go out for more then 20 minutes. There is a wait list for any facility and could take months to get her there. she will get snarky if things are not done quickly for her. She will plan my day for me and then not come with me, or complain that its all taking too long. No one is willing to help or have the knowledge to help get the stress down.... I am out of ideas

Ok, great now she is home.... but she is sooooooo tired that she doesn't do anything at all... she sleeps 20+ hours a day, doesn't do any thing herself. She has not changed her clothes or bathed in any way in at least 4 days, and she expects me to help her with all of that. It may be mean, but I don't need to see her like that.... its bad enough what i saw in hospital. She has woken me up ( and friends that have been helping me out) at least 4 times a night to go to the bathroom or to turn on the light!!! She doesn't eat anything at all... 2 or 3 bites at most.  Going to the doctor tomorrow to see if I can get her into a facility. I need to take care of me and my family... I have been taking care of her for over 2 years now. My Aunt can not do anything as she is not well either

Well she is still in the CCU, with hopes to move her to the stroke unit today. She is stable for now, although her heart rate is still a worry for the doctors. Going to go up there today after missing yesterday. I was in emerg for exhaustion.

It is not fun watching the person who helped you so much in life take a turn for the worst. 

Today she looked very good. She was talking like normal, although still weak on her right side. Had an MRI last night and all looked good. She went for an EEG this morning and thats when she had a major seizure. It was so bad her heart stopped for a moment. The neurologist and his staff came and told me as soon as they could, and told me she was going to be in CCU for a bit then mover her back up to the unit into the acute stroke unit. They are putting her on full blown seizure med now by IV, not little by little like they were hoping they could do.. She is going to be in for a long time now.
