TORONTO -- Jose Bautista doesnt think starting pitchers should qualify for MVP awards. The Toronto Blue Jays slugger spoke out after Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander took the American League MVP award on Monday ahead of Bostons Jacoby Ellsbury and Bautista. "Theres nothing in the criteria that says a pitcher cannot receive the award," said Bautista on a conference call. "But at the same time, theres a couple of items that should eliminate a pitcher from receiving the award from the get go." In particular, Bautista was critical of the amount of time starting pitchers play compared to fielders who are in the lineup on a daily basis. "When one of the first items in the criteria for the MVP award states that the player should be on the field for the most amount of games for their own particular team and knowing that us position players have to be out there 150 plus times over ... I dont know, 30, 32, 33 times that a pitcher has to go out there, in my eyes thats pretty much an elimination right there," said Bautista. Verlander received 13 of 28 first-place votes and 280 points in voting announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Ellsbury came second with four firsts and 242 points, followed by Bautista with five firsts and 231 points. "It doesnt make a difference to me if Verlander of Ellsbury wins," said Bautista. "The bottom line is that I wasnt chosen but, at the same time, I know that he (Verlander) had a great season and I feel excited for him, that he was able to get the award. Congratulations to him. Added Bautista: "Im not knocking on Verlander or the year that he had." Verlander is the first starting pitcher to win an MVP in 27 years. He was given the Cy Young Award as the leagues best pitcher on Nov. 15 after winning 24 games in 34 starts with a 2.40 earned-run average and 250 strikeouts. He also threw a no-hitter in Toronto on May 7. Bautista wasnt alone in his criticism of a pitcher winning the MVP. Jim Ingraham of The Herald-News in Ohio did not have Verlander on his ballot. Sheldon Ocker of the Akron Beacon Journal voted Verlander eighth. Ingraham thinks pitchers should not be eligible for MVP awards. "Id wrestled with this for a long time. If I was ever going to vote for pitcher for MVP, it would be him this year," said Ingraham, who was one of Bautistas first-place votes. "He hasnt appeared in 79 per cent of their games, any starting pitcher really doesnt appear in 79 per cent of his teams games in a year." Ingraham compared baseballs MVP to other sports to underscore his point. "Would you vote for an NFL quarterback for MVP if he only appeared in three of his teams 16 games, which would be 21 per cent? So thats part of it," Ingraham said to The Associated Press. "Another part of it is I think theyre apples and oranges. The guys that are in there every day, theres a grind to a season that a starting pitcher doesnt, I dont think, experience the way the everyday position players do playing 150, 160 games." Other pitchers to win MVP and Cy Young in the same year were Brooklyns Don Newcombe (1956), Los Angeles Sandy Koufax (1963), St. Louis Bob Gibson and Detroits Denny McLain (1968), Oaklands Vida Blue (1971) , Milwaukees Rollie Fingers (1981) and Detroits Willie Hernandez (1984). Bautista won the ALs Hank Aaron Award as the leagues best offensive player and a Silver Slugger as the best hitter at his position. He finished 2011 with a .302 batting average, 43 home runs and 103 RBIs. The 31-year-old Jays slugger was the only player who earned a vote that was not on a team in the playoff picture in October. "I dont see how only guys that are on playoff-bound teams should be considered for the award," said Bautista. "The name of the award is MVP not MVP for playoff teams, but, thats just the way I look at it." Despite his obvious disappointment, Bautista tried to keep the MVP snub in perspective. "I play the game to win on a daily basis and hopefully accumulate enough Ws at the end of the year to get into the playoffs and win the World Series," said Bautista. "I dont put on a uniform that says Blue Jays on the front on a daily basis to garner personal accolades, thats not what Im about. "Even though theyre nice -- its nice to be recognized by the league and by the writers -- its not what I go out on the field every day for." ------ With files from The Associated Press. www.thebrownsjerseysshop.com/Womens-Bernie-Kosar-Nike-Jersey . Two days after losing their composure in a loss to Carolina, the Bruins had their best offensive game of the season in a 6-2 victory Thursday night that gave the Maple Leafs their first regulation loss. Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin had a goal and two assists each and the Stanley Cup champions scored two power-play goals, matching their total for their first six games. "Obviously, weve been a little frustrated and it showed at the end of the Carolina game," Lucic said. "What weve been able to do well as a team is weve always been able to turn that emotion into a positive and thats what we were able to do here tonight." The Bruins, who had 11 goals entering the game, rebounded from the 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night. Rich Peverleys goal with 9:01 left had cut Carolinas lead to 2-1 before Boston lost its momentum by taking several ill-advised penalties. Coach Claude Julien shook up his lines and the move paid off as the Bruins outshot the Maple Leafs 43-28. "It was a good thing because no one really had too much chemistry," Seguin said. "Tonight everyone kind of just focused on (his own) game and what they have to do in taking accountability and I think thats why we were successful." The Bruins won for the second time in five games and had two power-play goals for just the second time in 41 regular-season games. The Maple Leafs, playing their first road game of the season, had a predictable letdown from their last game, a 4-3 shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night. "When they scored (their) first goal the air went out of the balloon," Toronto coach Ron Wilson said. "We just didnt have our legs." David Steckel gave Toronto (4-1-1) the lead 7:29 into the game before the Bruins (3-4) scored three times in less than eight minutes to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. Nathan Horton and Chara scored on power plays and Chris Kelly connected with 2:11 left in the period. Lucic, Patrice Bergeron and Seguin scored in the third. Torontos Mikhail Grabovski finished the scoring Phil Kesssel, a former Bruin, entered with NHL-leading totals of seven goals and 12 points but was held scoreless for the first time in 16 regular-season games.dddddddddddd Seguin was taken with the second pick of last years draft obtained in the trade for Kessel. Steckel started the scoring with his first goal of the season on a 30-foot shot from the slot that deflected off the left leg of goalie Tim Thomas as he lay on his back. Barely three minutes later, at 10:32 of the first period, the Bruins tied it on Hortons second goal after backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson, playing for the first time this season, stopped Charas 50-foot shot but left the rebound for Horton to put in the net on a power play. "We know they were going to come out hard so I was prepared for a lot of shots," Gustavsson said. Chara scored his first goal on another power play, at 16:05, on a pass from the blue line from defenceman Andrew Ference, who tied his career high with three assists. Less than two minutes later, at 17:49, Ference assisted on Kellys second goal, starting the play with a pass to Lucic, who skated up the left side and across the goal line. He then passed it in front of the net where it bounced before Kelly lifted a backhander over Gustavsson. Toronto had the best scoring chance of the second period when Grabovski, coming out of the penalty box, got the puck at the red line and broke in alone. But Thomas made the save at 8:43. "I didnt bang my stick to give my (defencemen) any warning so I kind of helped cause the breakaway," Thomas said, "so I had extra motivation to stop that breakaway." The Bruins made it 4-1 at 2:08 of the third period when Seguin passed from the right circle across the slot to Lucic, who shot into the open side of the net for his first goal. Patrice Bergeron got his first goal and Seguin scored his second before Grabovski beat Thomas at 12:33 of the third period. Notes: The Bruins were 2 for 24 on the power play before Thursday. ... C David Krejci returned after missing four games with what the Bruins called a core injury. ... Thomas broke a four-game losing streak against Toronto. ... (Sports Network) - Daniel Alfredsson has tapped into the fountain of youth a bit in an effort to replace injured leading goal-scorer Milan Michalek. The 39-year-old will try to give himself an early Christmas present with a milestone goal this evening and lift the Ottawa Senators to a fourth straight victory in a matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes, who are also without their top goal scorer. Michalek is pacing the Senators with 19 goals this season, but has missed the past four games with a concussion and is out indefinitely. Alfredsson has picked up the pace since, logging three goals and nine points over his last four games. Alfredsson scored the 399th goal of his career and logged two assists in last nights 4-3 overtime win against the Panthers. Bobby Butler was credited with the winning goal as his pass attempt to Erik Karlsson hit off of a Florida defender and in. Chris Neil and Karlsson scored while Craig Anderson made 32 saves. Ottawa gave up three one-goal leads, but is still in position to win four in a row for the first time since a six-game run from Oct. 20-30. "We had a hard time getting the momentum in the game, but I think going into the third we were just sticking to it and never quit," said Karlsson, who has two goals and five assists over his last three games. Carolina, meanwhile, played for the fifth time in a row without Jeff Skinner on Wednesday. Skinner leads the Hurricanes with 12 goals and 24 points, but is also out with a concussion. The Hurricanes led the Coyotes by two goals on Wednesday, but allowed three unanswered goals over the games final 26-plus minutes to drop a 4-3 decision and lose for the fourth time in five games. "We got that third goal and I thought we were in good shape," Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller said. "Then they get that second goal and the team kind of dropped its energy. Thats what we have to get away from." Tuomo Ruutu, Andreas Nodl and Jiri Tlusty scored for the Hurricanes, while Cam Ward allowed all four goals on 19 shots in the loss. Carolina fell to 9-1-2 when leading after two periods. The Hurricanes won their final three meetings with the Senators last season by a 15-4 margin, but have lost a pair of encounters to the club this year. They had a seven-game home winning streak in this series halted on Oct. 25 with a 3-2 shootout loss, but have still outscored the Sens 30-12 in those eight games at RBC Center. Sergei Gonchar is pacing the Senators with four points -- all assists -- versus Carolina this year, while Jason Spezza has three goals and Anderson has been in net for both wins. Ruutu has a goal and two assists versus Ottawa this year, while captain Eric Staal has a goal and a helper. Ward has just an .887 save percentage in the two meetings. nfl cheap jerseys .Y. -- New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis fully participated in practice Monday after sitting out team drills Sunday with some tightness in his right hamstring. cheap wholesale jerseys china . BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Seven months after losing its Olympic place, wrestling was reinstated for the 2020 Olympics on Sunday as the IOC overturned a decision that many members thought was a mistake. Wrestling easily defeated bids from baseball-softball and squash for a spot on the program of the 2020 Games, which were awarded Saturday to Tokyo. Wrestling, which was surprisingly dropped from the list of core sports in February, received 49 votes to win in the first round of secret balloting by the International Olympic Committee. Baseball-softball got 24 votes and squash 22. The decision capped a frantic six-month campaign by wrestling body FILA to revamp the organization and reshape the sport to save its Olympic status. "With this vote, you have shown that the steps we have taken to improve our sport have made a difference," FILA President Nenad Lalovic said. "I assure each of you that our modernization will not stop now. We will continue to strive to be the best partner to the Olympic Movement that we can be." The vote followed final presentations by all three sports, with Lalovic promising the delegates that wrestling had learned its lesson. "Today is the most important day in the 2,000-year history of our sport," Lalovic said. "We feel the weight of that history. Remaining on the Olympic program is crucial to wrestlings survival." Wrestling goes back to the ancient Olympics in Greece and has been on the program of every modern games except 1900. The sport was caught off guard when it was axed by the IOC executive board -- a decision that surprised even most IOC members. "We have made mistakes," Lalovic told the IOC members Sunday. "We admitted but we decided to listen and learn. This is the only way to be a partner of the IOC. We are aware of our mistakes and they will not happen again. We have to update our sport, like any other sport, every day." The result was welcomed by IOC members as rectifying a mistake. "We cannot imagine the games without wrestling," said Sheik Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, the influential Kuwaiti who heads the Association of National Olympic Committees. "Wrestling is a founder. Today was a great result." Squash was trying to make the Olympics for the third time. Mens baseball and womens softball merged into a single federation to try to return after being dropped for the 2012 and 2016 Games. Raphael Martinetti resigned as FILA president within days of the IOC vote and was replaced by Lalovic. FILA revamped its structure, giving women and athletes a role in decision making. It added two weight classes for women. It adoopted rule changes to make the sport easier to understand and more fun to watch, and reward more aggressive wrestling.dddddddddddd Powerful countries and unlikely political allies like the United States, Iran and Russia threw their weight behind the campaign. "Wrestling is new in virtually every way," FILA official Jim Scherr told the delegates. Each sport had 20 minutes to make its case to the IOC. Don Porter, the American co-president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, choked up and had tears in his eyes as he talked about receiving letters from young girls who were distraught when softball was dropped. "We want to give every little girl and boy in the world a chance to play our game," Porter said. Antonio Castro, the son of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, played up baseballs global appeal. "Today we are the most popular sport in the world which is not part of the Olympic program," he said. "As everyone knows, baseball is not just a sport, its a business." Squash federation chief N. Ramachandran said his sport would represent the future, not the past, an apparent dig at wrestling. "We would be a partner you can trust," he said. "Squash has never been in the Olympic games. And we know what a great honour it would be for squash to join the sport program and add something new to Olympic experience." The whole process has been controversial. Wrestlings return means no new sport will make the 2020 program, defeating the original intention. Earlier Sunday, the IOC rejected a proposal by Canadian member Dick Pound to postpone a decision for five months to allow a new sport to get in. "It seems to me the result of the exercise to date has been to remove wrestling, which is one of the truly traditional Olympic sports in the program, but then to add it back on to a list of possible new sports," Pound said. "That seems to me to be somewhat self-contradictory. "My sense is theres a very strong feeling that wrestling should be retained. If that is expressed by the session then were back to where we started. Theres been no new sport added to the program." Pound suggested the IOC board should propose a new list at the next meeting in February on the eve of the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. IOC President Jacques Rogge defended the process, saying members had agreed unanimously -- "I repeat unanimously" -- to the system in 2007. "We should act now," Rogge said. "I think we should respect our own decision." The IOC members then approved the list of 25 core sports to allow the vote to go ahead. ' ' '

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Former Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington is off to the real world penalty box -- prison. A judge in Riverside, Calif., sentenced the 71-year-old on Friday to six months behind bars for violating a term of his probation on a perjury conviction. "Onward and upward," Pocklington said in a news release. "Those who know me also know that throughout my life, I have encountered and successfully overcome much adversity. I do so again now, grateful for the expressions of support I have received from my family, friends and associates. Adversity is a great teacher and makes those who strive to overcome it better people." The colourful Canadian business tycoon, who earned millions in everything from hockey to hogs only to face mountains of debt and the wrath of Albertans, has been dogged by controversy and legal problems for decades. But this will marks the first time hell be sent to prison. U.S. assistant attorney Tony Raphael said Pocklington must surrender to U.S. prison authorities on Dec. 9. Its not yet know which facility hell be sent to. Judge Virginia Phillips granted the delay so Pocklington can travel to Florida for surgery in November, said the prosecutor. Court documents show he has eye and colon problems, but Raphael wasnt clear what the surgery is for. Other than the hospital trip, Pocklington must remain in the central district of California. He will likely be fitted with an electronic ankle bracelet on Monday, Raphael said. Pocklington will also be under two years of supervised release, including six months of house arrest, when he gets out of prison. "Obviously, this is not a development I welcome, but I accept full responsibility for my actions," said Pocklington. "I will willingly comply with each and every condition of my supervised release." The prosecutor recommended Pocklington serve a nine-year sentence. Defence lawyer Brent Romney asked the judge to spare his client from prison so he could care for his ailing wife, Eva, who recently suffered heart failure and received a pacemaker. The defence also submitted as evidence several letters from high school students, sent to Pocklington after he spoke to their health class about "positive self esteem." Raphael said the letters backfired. "The judge felt that actually that kind of cut against him," he said. "Her comment was the letters showed the defendant went out and talked to the kids about how he became successful and wealthy. But really, she felt he should have talked to them about how he got in trouble with the law and also had been convicted of a crime." Several students wrote about how they wanted to be successful like Pocklington. They were inspired when they told them he was 13 when he decided he was going to be rich and 20 when he made his first million. "When people hated you and said things to you, you never gave up," wrote one teen. "I wanna thank you for opening my eyes and showing me how to never quit and make the right choices." Court heard earlier this week that Pocklington had submitted a false monthly income report to his probation officer. Raphael said Pocklington didnt adequately disclose a $15,000 consulting fee he received in January 2012. In 2010, the Canadian businessman was sentenced to six months of house arrest and two years probation for perjury. He pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to lying during previous bankruptcy proceedings. In exchange, charges of bankruptcy fraud were dropped. Pocklington filed a bankruptcy claim in 2008 stating he was virtually penniless and owed almost $US20 million. The FBI arrested him at his home in Palm Desert, near Palm Springs, the following year. In previous court documents, investigators said they believed Pocklington was associated with off-shore companies registered in the Bahamas. In the end, Pocklington admitted in court that he had declared bankruptcy without disclosing that he had control over bank accounts and storage facilities containing assets and property of his wife. A lawyer representing several creditors still looking for Pocklington to pay up was also in court Friday. Raphael said the judge gave the creditors permission to file a motion asking that financial records entered into the hearing be unsealed. Pocklingtons creditors include the Alberta government, which loaned the businessman money to prop up his Gainers meat-packing company and other failed enterprises. A Canadian court earlier ruled that Pocklington owes the province $13 million. In May, Pocklington and an associate settled a securities fraud case in Arizona and were ordered to pay more than US$5 million. Pocklington is most famous for bringing Wayne Gretzky to Edmonton in 1978, then trading the superstar player a decade later to the Los Angeles Kings. Livid hockey fans burned the owner in effigy outside the citys arena. Mired in debt, Pocklington later sold the team to a consortium of local buyers and headed for California. cheap jerseys for kids . DETROIT -- The way the Detroit Red Wings have been playing, it was only a matter of time before Jimmy Howard ended up with a shutout. Howard made 22 saves, and Jakub Kindl and Cory Emmerton scored in the second period to lift the Red Wings over the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 on Thursday night. Detroit has gone five games without allowing a goal in the first or second period, and Howard blanked Edmonton in the third as well for his second shutout of the season. "I think were playing really well as a team right now. Were doing a lot of great things," Howard said. "When you work hard and you pay attention to detail, good things happen." Justin Abdelkaders empty-net goal put the game out of reach. Howard made 36 saves in a win Tuesday against Colorado, but coach Mike Babcock wasnt all that impressed with his teams overall performance that night. The Red Wings were sharper defensively against Edmonton and took control in the second period, when they outshot the Oilers 15-7. Detroit is 10-0-1 in its last 11 regular-season games against Edmonton. The Oilers are 0-3-1 in their last four games overall. After a scoreless first period -- a shot off the crossbar by Detroits Kyle Quincey was the only noteworthy moment -- the Red Wings looked a bit more energized in the second. Jordin Tootoo fought with Edmontons Mike Brown early in the period, and Kindl opened the scoring less than a minute later. Kindl was caught between two Oilers when he managed a shot that slipped through goalie Devan Dubnyk and trickled across the line for a 1-0 lead. The worst was still to come for Edmonton. "They dominated us for 10 minutes after that and then they got the 2-0 goal and the game was lost," Oilers coach Ralph Krueger said. "Theres no excuses for this one. You cannot stop playing for 10 minutes against the Detroit Red Wings and expect to get points." The Red Wings added their second goal after some sustained pressure when Emmerton took a pass from Drew Miller and beat Dubnyk high to the stick side from the slot. "I think I kind of got lost in the change and came in a little bit higher than they expected, but its nice to get that little bit of open space," Emmerton said. "You dont really get those open-ice chances too often, especially right in the slot." Howard had to make a couple of terrific saves against the Avalanche and came within 90 seconds of a shutout in that game. He wasnt tested as much by Edmonton, even after the Oilers pulled their goalie with more than 2 minutes remaining. Abdelkaders empty-netter was his first goal of the season. "Thats a pretty complete game for us. We didnt give up very much," Babcock said. "Obviously, in this last run weve had, weve played way better defensively. I think with the exception of our last game, we played real well." Detroit plays eight of its next 10 games on the road -- a tough stretch for a team thats still in a pretty muddled race for playoff position. "Were 5-1-1 in the last seven and it feels like we havent moved at all," Emmerton said. "One day were in fourth and the next day were in 10th, so every game is huge. Obviously, only Anaheim and Chicago are the only two teams who are really running away with it. So its going to be a grind right down for that kind of fourth spot right to eight." NOTES: Detroit had 28 shots on goal. ... The Red Wings scored more than two goals for the first time in five games, but theyve lost only once in regulation during that span. ... TAMPA, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers had a spectacular special teams performance and made the Tampa Bay Lightning pay for it. Kris Versteeg and Stephen Weiss both had two goals and two assists, defenceman Brian Campbell had four assists, and the Panthers beat the Lightning 7-4 on Monday night. Versteeg put the Panthers up 5-3 with his second power-play goal of the game, beating goalie Dwayne Roloson from the low right circle 25 seconds into the third period. Florida scored five goals in nine chances with the man advantage. "Were slowly picking away, and tonight it explodes," Florida coach Kevin Dineen said. "Wed love to take credit for all our schemes, but there was a lot of high-end talent out there. They werent the pretty plays. They were making real quality plays, and we were getting the puck at the net. That was the difference." The Panthers went ahead 6-4 when Weiss scored at 15:28 of the third. Jason Garrison added a late power-play goal. "We moved it around really well, good puck movement," Weiss said. "We were crisp and we shot the puck when we had opportunities, and they went in." Tomas Kopecky and Sean Bergenheim had the other goals for the Panthers, who also scored twice on the power play in a 3-2 shootout victory over Tampa Bay on Saturday. All four of Campbells assists came on the power play. "Its just one of those nights, I guess. Things are going good," Campbell said. "Thats not going to happen too often, so youll take it when you get it." Teddy Purcell, Victor Hedman, Vincent Lecavalier and Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa Bay, which played at home for the first time since its arena underwent around US$40 million in off-season improvements.dddddddddddd The Lightning had lost four in a row to finish a season-opening, five-game trip 1-2-2. "Obviously, were not happy," Stamkos said. "I wouldnt say were in a panic mode, but were worried. This isnt the start we wanted. Were taking way too many penalties." Tampa Bay dropped a seven-game series last season to Boston in the Eastern Conference final. Stamkos scored in-close on goalie Jose Theodore to get Tampa Bay within 5-4 at 10:53 of the third. "This one is done," Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher said. "Reality is we have to get better." Goals by Versteeg, on the power play, and Bergenheim during a short-handed breakaway gave Florida a 4-2 lead in the second. Lecavalier cut the Lightnings deficit to 4-3 with 3:39 remaining in the period. After Kopecky and Purcell traded power-play goals, Hedman gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead at the 14:00 of the first. Weiss tied it on another man-advantage goal with 2:48 remaining before intermission. Hedman snapped his 27-game goal drought, which dated to Feb. 17 against Detroit. Lightning defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron had three assists. He has six assists and eight points overall this season. NOTES: A pre-game moment of silence was held for two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon, who died Sunday after being involved in a fiery 15-car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wheldon lived in nearby St. Petersburg. ... Arena improvements in Tampa included new seats and the installation of a pipe organ. ... NEIVA, Colombia -- What Canada thought would be a tune-up turned into a rout at the FIBA Americas Championship. Kalisha Keane scored 15 points as Canadas womens basketball team crushed Paraguay 77-26 on Monday. Keane, from Ajax, Ont., went 3-for-3 from three-point range as the No. 12 Canadians improved to 2-1 at the Olympic qualifying tournament. Lizanne Murphy of Beaconsfield, Ont., had 11 points, Kim Smith of Mission, B.C., scored 10 and Tamara Tatham of Brampton, Ont., chipped in with eight points along with a team-leading eight rebounds for Canada. "We knew Paraguay was probably the weakest team in our pool," said Canadian head coach Allison McNeill. "So it wasnt so much a victory but I think we had a good team effort and I was really happy defensively again how we played. Weve been showing some good consistency at the defensive end, and still trying to get in better synch offensively." Canadas defence was effective against unranked Paraguay (0-2), keeping all shooters under double figures. Ilda Pena Valdez led Paraguay with seven points. McNeill said Canada had planned to use the game to work out the kinks ahead of Wednesdays match against Jamaica. "We just thought, we knew we were going to win the game but we just wanted to respect (Paraguay) and try to get some of the things accomplished that we want to get better at, and I think we did that," she said. Brazil (3-0) leads Pool B with six points after beating Jamaica 73-5, while Canada is second with five points. The top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals. The winner of the 10-team tournament gets an automatic spot at the 2012 London Olympics, while second through fourth qualify for the 12-team Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Canada beat Mexico 72-45 in the opener but lost 56-39 to Brazil on Sunday. The team wraps up the preliminary round versus 49th-ranked Jamaica. A win would see Canada advance to the semifinals, but McNeill said Jamaica wouldnt give up the spot easily. "Theyre big, theyre physical, they rebound extremely well, theyre a very good offensive rebounding team," she said. "They put pressure on the ball. Theyre pretty tough." Canada is playing for its first Olympic appearance since the 2000 Sydney Games. Tom Brady Camo Jersey . The team used its amnesty clause on Scola, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the move has not been announced. BOSTON -- Facing his former team was just another game for Adrian Gonzalez. His current teams 10-run inning was something special. Gonzalez drove in three runs with a single and double in the big seventh inning and the hot-hitting Boston Red Sox rolled to a 14-5 win over the struggling San Diego Padres on Monday night. "I had fun with it. I have fun out there every day," said Gonzalez, who leads the majors with 67 RBIs and a .353 batting average. "It was good to see them before the game and catch up with them, but once the game started, it was all about playing the game." The Red Sox have been playing it better than any other team the past 2 1/2 weeks. They are 14-2 since June 3. They scored at least 10 runs for the fifth time in nine games and lead the majors with a .277 batting average. "I dont really know the stats," Dustin Pedroia said. "Were just out there playing. Were trying to win games. We know we have a great offence. Were just trying to put it all together and weve been doing that the past few weeks." The Red Sox had only five hits in the 10-run inning. Three runs scored on two hit batsmen and a walk with the bases loaded. But the biggest play almost ended up as a double play. Cory Luebke (1-2) had struck out six of his nine batters heading into the seventh. "I felt fine," he said. "(My) last inning the ball was coming up a little bit. No matter how many pitches youve been out there for, you cant walk the leadoff hitter. I kind of started the mess there." Jacoby Ellsbury drew that walk. Pedroia then hit a bouncer to second baseman Orlando Hudson but hustled down the line to narrowly avoid a double play. Gonzalez followed with a tiebreaking double. "That seventh inning was all created by Pedey getting to first base," said Gonzalez, traded in the off-season for three prospects because the Padres couldnt offer him a lucrative contract. "If he was not able to stay away from the double play and get down the line, my double doesnt score a run. ... After that, the guys just continued to have quality at-bat after quality at-bat." Matt Albers (2-3) pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings to get the decision as the AL East-leading Red Sox remained 1 1/2 games ahead of the New York Yankees. San Diego, last in the majors with a .233 batting average, lost its season-high sixth straight game. "Some soft hits, walks and hit by pitches," Padres manager Bud Black said of the 10-run inning. "We just tried to stop the bleeding and couldnt.dddddddddddd" Gonzalezs double made it 4-3. After Kevin Youkilis flied out, the Red Sox scored nine more runs. David Ortiz was walked intentionally and J.D. Drew walked, loading the bases. Ernesto Frieri then hit the next two batters -- Marco Scutaro and Jason Varitek -- to make it 6-3. Josh Reddick tacked on a two-run double, and Pedroia walked with the bases loaded. Gonzalez drove in two more with a base hit and Youkilis had a two-run double. It was the most runs for the Red Sox in a single inning since they scored 12 in the sixth in a 13-3 win over Cleveland on May 7, 2009. The team record is 17 runs in the seventh against Detroit on June 18, 1953. The previous biggest inning for the Red Sox this season was seven runs in three games, the last on June 11 at Toronto. "We had 13 hits and they had 14 and we lost by nine runs," Black said after watching his pitchers walk nine batters. "You cant walk guys in this park." Boston scored single runs in the first, third and fourth off Wade LeBlanc. San Diego tied it in the sixth on a three-run homer by Hudson off Andrew Miller, the sixth overall pick in the 2006 draft. He made his first appearance of the season after being called up on Sunday from triple-A Pawtucket. "Theres a lot to be encouraged about," Boston manager Terry Francona said. He "just made a bad pitch and paid for it." Boston added another run, on a bases-loaded walk to Ellsbury, in the eighth. NOTES: Chase Headley went 4 for 5 for the Padres. ... Francona is considering using first baseman Gonzalez in the outfield for some games during a nine-game interleague trip to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Houston. That would give designated hitter Ortiz a chance to play first base rather than miss all the games. Gonzalez has played the outfield just once in his 929 games -- making three putouts and an error on Sept. 30, 2005, for the Texas Rangers against the Los Angeles Angels. ... Padres catcher Nick Hundley broke an 0-for-17 slump with a single in the eighth. ' ' '

CHICAGO - Adam Dunn made it seem as if he had no trouble seeing through the dense fog. Dunn went 4 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs to overcome two home runs and five RBIs by Torontos Jose Bautista and give the Chicago White Sox a 10-6 victory in a game delayed over an hour because of limited visibility Monday night. "It was actually pretty tough," Dunn said about the fog. "It was probably a lot tougher for the outfielders. "It was worse than when it rains. With the lights, it made it really really bright. It was weird." Dunn hit a three-run home run off knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (5-8) in the fourth inning after he hit a solo shot in the third. Dunn, who entered the game with a .165 batting average, hit home runs that were estimated at 444 and 441 feet. "I dont think Ive faced that many (knuckleballers)," Dunn said. "I think I faced Tim Wakefield a few times and a couple other guys. "If theyre right, theres nothing you can do about it," he said. "Hopefully the make a mistake and tonight he made a few." The game was played from the second inning on in fog which became so thick in the third inning that fly balls became an adventure. Umpires stopped play in the third for 1 hour, 10 minutes and the fog continued to varying degrees even after the break. "It wasnt being called," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said after his teams third straight win. "Its just you cant predict. Its not like rain. "It would clear up and all the sudden you couldnt see an outfielder. Very odd," Ventura added. "It was probably worse on the outfielders because they couldnt really see when it was coming off the bat." Like Dunn, Bautista made it simple for the outfielders by simply sending it well over their heads. Bautista matched a career high with five RBIs and his first-pitch, first-inning home run with Melky Cabrera on first base gave Toronto a 2-0 lead. Dunns homers gave him his 36th career multihomer game and he matched a career high with four hits. He helped the White Sox score 10 runs in a game for the first time this season. Dylan Axelrod allowed Bautistas two-run shot in the first inning and three-run drive in the fourth, as well as a solo shot by Colby Rasmus in the fifth. Axelrod lasted four innings and gave up eight hits, six runs and four walks. At least on the home runs he gave up, Axelrod said he didnt mind the fog. "I didnt see all those home runs go out," he said. "So thats cool." Dickey went five innings and allowed seven runs, 10 hits and a walk. "Unfortunately the knuckleball is tough sometimes," Dickey said. "When it doesnt break, it can just sit there on a tee for guys like Adam Dunn to hit it out of the park, and thats what he did." Addison Reed pitched the ninth after Jesse Crain pitched out of an eighth-inning jam as the White Sox bullpen threw five scoreless innings. Crain has thrown 25 2-3 consecutive scoreless innings. "You get that lead and you start mixing and matching with guys," Ventura said. "Jesse again coming in in the situation that hes been coming in, hes been big." Reliever Nathan Jones (2-4) got the victory. Trailing 2-0, the White Sox rebounded with a five-hit, three-run second inning against Dickey, capped by Alejandro De Azas two-run, two-out single. The White Sox loaded the bases with singles by Dunn, Jeff Keppinger and Gordon Beckham. A sacrifice fly by Hector Gimenez made it 2-1, then De Aza singled to centre to score Keppinger and Beckham. Dunn made it 4-2 with his solo home run in the third prior to the delay. Then Bautista made it 5-4 for Toronto with his three-run homer in the fourth. Dunns second homer made it 7-5 before Rasmus shot made it 7-6. The White Sox added three runs in the eighth inning helped by two errors by the Blue Jays. Beckham led off with a single and went to third on an error by Edwin Encarnacion. With one out, he scored on an error by Emilio Bonifacio. Paul Konerko and Dunn added RBI singles later in the inning. NOTES: Former White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle returned with the Blue Jays to Chicago for the first time this season. Buehrle will not face the team he pitched 12 seasons for in this series. He is 2-4 with a 5.06 ERA and one of the wins came in Toronto against Chicago. Buehrle called it a weird feeling when he had to walk past the White Sox locker room. He was honoured with a standing ovation and a video tribute in the first inning. ... Blue Jays manager John Gibbons missed the game due to his sons high school graduation. Jackson hit his second career home run in the seventh inning on his way to his first win in seven starts since July 31. The Reds — who went into the game third in the NL Central, two games behind first-place St. Louis — saw their streak of consecutive scoreless innings reach 15 since a walkoff win over Los Angeles on Sunday. Then Zack Cozart and pinch-hitter Corky Miller hit consecutive doubles with one out in the seventh. Jackson (8-15) allowed nine hits and one run with four strikeouts in seven innings. The Cubs earned consecutive wins over Cincinnati for the first time since 2011, when they won on Sept. 7 in Chicago and Sept. 12 in Cincinnati — a span of 36 games. ST. LOUIS - This time around, the St. Louis Blues are determined not to be a mere speed bump for the Los Angeles Kings. Coach Ken Hitchcock likes his teams chances of making a deep playoff run, but scoffed away a suggestion that the Blues and Kings have a lot of similarities. After sweeping the Blues in the second round last spring en route to the franchises first Stanley Cup, Los Angeles won all three games this season, too, and have taken eight in a row overall. "Look, we havent beaten them in two years," Hitchcock said Monday. "I think were really hungry for this series. Its a matchup that quite frankly if were going to go far, the confidence if we could win this series would be astronomical." The Blues have won 12 of their last 15 with a mix of stingy goaltending, tight checking and just enough offence. They won their last six at home to claim the fourth seed in the Western Conference after finishing one point ahead of the Kings. Forward T.J Oshie, expected back from ankle surgery for Game 1 Tuesday night, believes the key to the series is "probably not let them push us around and intimidate us." "I think last year, not everyone, but we had some guys that just didnt really want to go into the hard areas," Oshie said. "Theyre going to come hard and were going to do the same." Hitchcock said the Kings pace was a bigger factor last spring and added "physical play is the most over-rated thing in playoffs." Yet the Kings didnt downplay expectations itll be a physical series. "Big bodies on each side, I dont anticipate anything else," forward Justin Williams said. "If youre a slow team, youre going to get hit. "If you skate the puck quick, get out of your zone quick, youre not going to be hit." The Kings were the first No. 8 seed to win the Cup last year, bumping off the No. 2-seeded Blues, and begin their bid for a repeat as a well-respected No. 5. "Los Angeles is the only team that has the knowledge of what it takes to win," Hitchcock said. "Everybody else can talk about it, but they have it, they know how deep you have to go." Captain Dustin Brown, who scored twice in the Kings clinching victory over St. Louis last season, said its important to remember how grueling the playoffs can be. "We went through it just last year," Brown said. "But sometimes youve got to really focus on how hard it is, how much work you have to put in to be successful this time of the year. Shift by shift, literally taking it one period at a time." Part of that mind-set means not taking their recent dominance in the series for granted. The Blues made significant moves on defence for the stretch and after the final meeting against the Kings, picking up Jay Bouwmeester and Jordan Leopold. Jeff Carter had 26 goals and Anze Kopitar had a team-leading 42 points for the Kings. "The playoffs are about players stepping up," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "Experience has got to help. Its not necessarily winning, its understanding how long the haul is. We didnt play St. Louis until the second round last year, so St. Louis knows how to win, too. The goalies figure to be in the spotlight, especially with neither team generating much offence. The Kings totalled two or fewer goals in five of their last seven and the Blues scored two or fewer goals in eight consecutive games this month. Jonathan Quick was ready for it last year, allowing five goals against the Blues and taking the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP with a 1.41 goals-against average. Brian Elliott gets the Game 1 start for St. Louis ahead of Jaroslav Halak, recovered from a groin injury, off a spectacular rebound from early-season difficulties that included a benching and conditioning stint in the minors. He won nine games in April with three straight shutouts on the road. Hitchcock said there was a good reason Elliott struggled in the Kings series last year. He was treated for an inner-ear infection throughout the series, and Hitchcock said "I wasnt in the medical thing, all I knew was he had no balance." Wholesale NFL Jerseys from china .ca look back at each of the Top 10 stories of 2012. If the Miami Heat were going to have a moment of silence to honour the victims of the Connecticut school shooting, then they wanted their own children to share in that solemn tribute. So several players did exactly that -- and maybe it was no coincidence that the Heat came up with one of their most complete showings of the season. James had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and the Heat never trailed on the way to beating the Washington Wizards 102-72 on Saturday night. "We were focused on the game," Wade said. "We had heavy hearts for the families that dealt with the tragedy. But we had to play basketball, and ... for our fans and our family we had to come out here and do our job." And thats exactly what the Heat did. Wade and Udonis Haslem each scored 13 for Miami, which outscored Washington 29-10 in the third quarter to build a 33-point lead. James had 16 points alone in the third, ensuring he would finish with at least 20 points for the 26th straight regular-season game and 42nd consecutive game overall dating to last season. Chris Bosh added 12 points for the Heat, who turned 21 turnovers into 30 points. "We worked the game," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. You should have some of these games where you jump on teams and youre able to sustain it." Bradley Beal scored 19 points and Cartier Martin added 18 for the Wizards, who beat the Heat 105-101 in Washington on Dec. 4. This one went much differently. Consider: By halftime, Miami already had 50 points. Through three quarters, Washington still only had 46. "I didnt know what we were running half the time," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "Credit to Miami. They came out and put pressure on us and we didnt handle their pressure. I dont know what we were doing from an offensive standpoint." It was an emotional day in Miami, as it has been at just about every U.S. sports venue since the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. on Friday sent shock waves across the country. Several Heat players spoke about how the massacre that leeft 20 children and six adults dead at an elementary school affected them, and before tipoff on Saturday, Miami held a moment of silence.dddddddddddd The added twist was the presence of the kids: Several Heat players brought their children onto the court for that moment, with Bosh holding his son Jackson to his chest. "I couldnt imagine being in the position some people are in right now," Bosh said. "It wasnt like they were dropping their kids off in a dangerous situation. It was school." Once the game started, Miami was all business. Miami held Washington to 29 per cent from the field in the opening quarter, ran out to a quick 16-point lead and never yielded control. Jordan Crawford made a 3-pointer for the Wizards early in the second to cut the Miami lead to 28-22, but after that, it was all Heat. "We kind of turned into putty tonight," Wittman said. By halftime, it was 50-36, and Wade set James up for an easy basket with 4:35 left in the third to push the Heat margin to 69-40. After that, the only drama remaining revolved around whether James would extend his streak of 20-point games, with everyone in the building knowing that he would be sitting out the entire fourth quarter of the runaway game. He got there, and then some. James went on a personal 8-0 run to end the third, finishing his night with a flourish. A turnaround jumper with 1:56 left in the third started the end-of-quarter flurry, followed by a pull-up jumper on the next possession to give him 19 points. And when Ray Allen controlled a Norris Cole-versus-Beal jump ball, he flung it down court to James, who collected the pass and made a layup to pass that 20-point plateau once again. For good measure, James made one more 17-footer late in the quarter, going to the bench for good when the period ended. "We came out and set a tone early on," Wade said. "And everyone followed." NOTES: Former Heat C Shaquille ONeal sat courtside, shaking hands with several players during the first half. World No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy also was in attendance. ... Haslem, Bosh and Wade combined to shoot 16 for 22. ... The Heat, whose biggest lead in Washington was only five, led by as many as 35 on Saturday. ... Washington fell to 1-10 on the road. ' ' '
