I've been flirting with the idea of doing video game reviews on youtube for a while now. I've been brainstorming on the persona past few months and have one drafted. Now that it's close to ready, the question is, which game to review first? I've boiled it down to these contenders-
Twisted- the Gameshow (3DO) This is a mid-90s party game, where you try to escape TV hell as one of the kings/queens of the 17 cable channel 3 AM infomercial era. This was a favorite among college kids and stoners who could actually afford the system.
Hitman- Blood Money (cross-platform) The hired assassin 47 goes after his marks in just about any manner you see fit- from causing freak "accidents" to performing a nailgun sniper kill frenzy. This is as close to being a murder simulator that the franchise has offered yet. However, the poor AI makes the game easy as hell, even on the hardest difficulty.
Ultima- Exodus (NES) This port of the old Ultima III title is an often overlooked gem for RPG gamers who like to explore. There's a good degree of customization in party creation, along with what some kids at the time thought of as "sexy" female sprites. You can attack literally anyone, elderly and child NPCs alike, bribe guards, and go about things in a non-linear style. The drawbacks are a lack of bosses, levels increase enemy difficulty but not your stats, and the poor translation leaves many NPC hints to be little more than flavor text.
Ghosts and Goblins (NES) Also known as Ghouls and Ghosts, this title has caused heartache and despair for many who attempted a run at it. It has some addictive gameplay to keep someone at it, but most people will get crushed continually with the enemy patterns ripping both hitpoints away or knocking you back into a pit. This was platformer hell before the moon and error icons killed you. |
