Excerpt from my writing

It's been a long time since I've written anything in this novel, but I figured I'd post this as my first Blog Entry. Excerpt from "The Davenport Sisters" by: Mairi MacKay Copywritten 2007 Chapter 2 Salem, Massachusetts 1652 "The Births" A circle of wealthy men stood outside of Davenport Estate as sounds of horses filled the air kicking dirt about the city making way for new travelers arriving from ..:England. Hope stood with her guide and watched as a slave hurriedly ran downstairs to grab more cloths while two women were about ready to give birth. The sun shone through the windows when one woman let out a scream. "I'll never bare anymore children after this!" she cried fully beside herself as she laid there in agony. Her dark hair flung about her shoulders as her face paled. This child felt as though it was never going to come out and sweat ran down her face while she pushed again then yelled for her servant, Akira, who was just returning up the stairs. "Patience ma lady," Akira said as she tried to calm her down then grabbed a cloth and put it in a bucket full of water to wet it and placed it on her forehead. "Don't tell me patience when you're not the one who's giving birth! This is the last time I'm going through this pain ever again!" Mrs. Davenport yelled as she turned her head over to the woman who was lying in a bed in the same room as her and saw her friend's pale face. "Patricia?" she said softly noticing the signs of a bad birth approaching. Patricia turned her head, "Don't worry Elizabeth," she said as every ounce of energy felt as though it had drained from her and her face paled even more so as she started to push while Elizabeth Davenport yelled for another servant to rush up to help her dear friend. Elizabeth let out another scream and didn't realize this time the seriousness of her friend's situation as she herself was ready to give birth while Akira yelled for her to push again. "I see a head ma lady," she cried then turned her head for a moment to watch the other woman lying in the next bed over. Elizabeth turned again when she saw servants rushing to help her friend and one grabbing her shoulders trying to make her push harder but it took everything Patricia Andrews had to continue on as she could hear sounds of what seemed like music playing in the background. She smiled when she pushed again and they pulled the child out of her then wrapped it in some cloths as well as Elizabeth's. Akira handed Elizabeth her child when she turned her head to see Patricia's hand fall against the side of the bed and her eyes close. Tears came to Elizabeth's eyes at the loss of her friend as she held her new daughter in her arms. She looked at Akira who was cleaning up, "Send a rider for Mr. Andrews tell him of his daughter and of his wife's unfortunate death." Both children began to cry so Mrs. Davenport looked over at the servants who had helped Patricia. "Bring me the child," she said and she began to comfort it and looked at the two girls she held.
