The following instructions explain how to disable your mic within Windows control panel.
1. You will need to open your control panel settings and set the view from category to large or small icons.
2. Depending on what version of Windows you use you may or may not have a start menu or the control panel option listed on your start menu (Windows 8, for example). If you hold down the LEFT windows key (this is the key that is between Ctrl and Alt on most keyboards) and the "R" key it will open the run command. Once the run command has opened type in " control mmsys.cpl sounds " without quotes. This will open the sounds control panel directly. If you use this method please skip to step 4.
3. Open your sound control panel.
4. Select the "recording tab" and you will see a list of recording devices listed. If you speak or whistle you wee see the levels on one of the devices go up and down.
5. Right click the microphone and select show disabled devices, show disconnected devices, and disable.
7. Once disabled your mic will no longer broadcast and should look like the next image within your control panel
8. This concludes how to disable your mic in your control panel. to re-enable your mic simply right click and select enable.
