To any eco-minded mummers out there... serious help needed.
I am restoring and maintaining a Salmon/Steelhead habitat on my property. This property was neglected for decades, and we are now reclaiming it.
While clearing out tons of berry bushes and over-grown tree sprouts, we were forced to clear away much of the vegetation from the banks.
I rebuilt an old beaver dam to create a calm spot in a bend. My question is:
Since the blackberries had taken over, while I need to replant native grasses, ferns, etc... on the bank? Do the spawning grounds need shade to maintain a cooler water temp?
Or will the native plants just come back on their own, in due time?
** Yes, I am googling the subject. Just hoping for anyone that actually has experience in the matter. I am concerned about the environment, and dont want to screw this up!** |
