Two Martinsburg, W.Va., residents face charges resulting from a stolen vehicle chase and crash that injured a Frederick County sheriff's deputy and closed eastbound I-70 for nearly four hours Tuesday.
Tariq Amin Pulliam, 37, and Patricia Lynn Leonard, 34, face theft, drug possession and distribution charges, the sheriff's office said.
Deputy First Class Daniel Schlosser was patrolling the area of Md. 85 and Guilford Drive about 5 p.m. when he saw a green Chevrolet Tahoe that had been stolen from Prince George County, Va., deputies said. He tried to stop the sport utility vehicle, but it drove away.
Deputies and Maryland State Police chased the SUV through business parking lots and onto eastbound I-70, authorities said.
Near Linganore Road, the SUV swerved and the driver lost control, said Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, sheriff's office spokeswoman.
The rear passenger side fender of the SUV hit the front driver's side portion of the cruiser driven by Lt. Tom Winebrenner. The SUV spun out of control and flipped several times before landing on its roof.
